The neighbors were against this. They said it would destroy the area. Those darn rowdy seniors, .

From the Nonpareil:
A developer will receive an additional $440,000 in public support to help fill a financial gap to allow work to begin on the renovation of the former Gunn School on North Broadway.

Bids, however, came in about $1.8 million over the $7 million project budget.
Jim Rieker, executive vice president of multi-family acquisitions for Seldin, said cost-saving measures reduced the spending gap to $740,000. The company is looking to find $300,000 in additional adjustments to the project.

Rieker said a work on a contract will begin today with Darland for interior work. The plan is to get started on the project by the beginning of March with completion set for the end of the year.

A controversial Council Bluffs apartment complex for senior citizens that’s been in the works for years should be completed by mid- to late April, an official of the Omaha-based Seldin Co. said Wednesday.

Phyllis Peterson, director of affordable housing for Seldin Co., said the complex will include 36 one-and two-bedroom apartments for area residents ages 55 and older.
