I went to the Dog races Friday night and the club house was packed. I went to the buffet before going upstairs to the Dog races and it was pretty awful. The buffet was dead with no more then 10 or 15 people in it which should of been a warning to us. The food on the buffet was cold and had been sitting out for hours. This buffet is in trouble and loosing money big time. I think times are slow for this whole casino in general. I'm not saying they are not making money on weekends but I think the casino is lucky to break even during the week.

They do a good business in the casino on the weekends and often have a fair crowd on the weekday evenings too. Sunday seems to be relatively dead.

The buffet is usually not bad but the place has all of the ambiance of a high school cafeteria! Amerstar buffet is usually better, both food wise and atmosphere.

--Why capitalize the word "Dog"?
--"club house" should be one word.
--"no more then" should be "no more than".
--"should of" should be "should have".
--"loosing" should be "losing".

No one can take the criticisms of an uneducated charlatan seriously.
--The fact that you are reviewing a buffet in Council Bluffs is idiotic. I'm sorry that the buffet didn't measure up to the Bellagio in Las Vegas, but what did you expect? It's Council Bluffs after all.

Tell you what I agree with you for the most part. I think Dog could be capitalized in this case. I also think if they can review one of those mangy tater tot serving food trucks here it sure shouldn't be out of line to mention a huge casino buffet serving a 100 different foods.

Did you cater this buffet yourself or something? It seems like your taking a casual commentary on a mediocre buffet awfully personally.

Horseshoe Casino and Harrahs in Council Bluffs both had plans approved yesterday by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to build Sports Books. Horseshoe is building a 2.8 million dollar sports betting area and Harrahs is building a 2.2 million dollar sports betting area.

Just read that the Amerisports Bar/Ameristar and the Whiskey Roadhouse/Horseshoe will be the areas turned into the Sports Books.

I was at the Horseshoe yesterday and a couple of guys were installing about 6 65inch LG big screen TVs on the wall right next to the current horse and dog racing betting area. I also glanced at the Whiskey Roadhouse and it was untouched. I wonder if the Horseshoe is not sure if sports betting will catch on and they are going to just open a small operation to start and if it goes well then they will expand into the Whiskey Roadhouse. Amerisports bar at Ameristar is going to be a great place for their sportsbook.

The Whiskey Roadhouse will be shut down starting Sunday for two weeks. The current simulcast betting area is currently not big enough for the guys betting the horses. The Whiskey area will have both horses and sports betting in it.

I'm guessing that this is one part of the casino that will not get a lot of money from Nebraska. I see very little reason that someone from here would place a bet unless they are offer free drinks or some players club. It is much easier to play on credit from home or to hit up your neighborhood establishment that will take the action.

With betting illegal in Omaha I think it would be stupid to bet with a bookie when you could go to Iowa and be within the law and protected by the law. I can't stand most bookies and most of them are shifty and shady. I love that mafioso stuff on the Sorpranos and in the movies but in real life those type of guys get sickening real quick......not to mention I could get arrested for betting with them. I think I am normal on those points.

You won't be able to place bets from Nebraska. There will be a sportsbook app, but you will need to visit a casino to get it activated to prevent minors from establishing an account. Once the app is up and running you will need to be in Iowa to place a bet. There is geofencing that will prevent betting out of state. There are safeguards to prevent people from using VPN to try and game the system.

A good Omaha bookie will give u some credit, allows you to bet anyplace internet is available, and will meet anyplace u want to exchange cash. When was the last time you remember a guy betting $20-500 on sports busted in Omaha? The new places will be fun for special events but way too inconvenient for the normal weekend gambler. What would scare me is being able to bet sports on a credit card. A bookie will give you a set limit and cut you off, a credit card won't do that. If they let people bet w their credit cards or get cash via credit cards in Iowa that is a problem.

There ain't no such thing as a good bookie. Lets get that fact out of the way first  I never been cut off by any bookie in my entire life. Those kind of guys are not exactly social workers. The only way a bookie cuts you off is if you owe him money from last week.

I went over to the Horseshoe Wednesday to see how things were coming. In short not so well. It appears that despite what another poster in this forum reported the Whiskey Roadhouse is not being rapidly prepared to be the new sports book at the Horseshoe. I walked into the Whiskey Roadhouse and there was one guy in there working on a ladder running some wires. They have not done anything to the Whiskey Roadhouse yet. I bet on a couple of dog races and talked to a few friendly people working there. The workers told me that the Horseshoe will not be taking bets until August 23rd. The sports bets will be taken in the same place that they have the horse and dog betting. I was told that for now they were just going to set up a few tables and TVs for the sports book in the Whiskey Roadhouse. I said what about the 2.8 million they were going to spend? The workers kind of indicated the management does not know how this is going to pan out yet.

I went over to Ameristar after that to look at their new Sportsbook and it looked pretty cool. There were about 20 staff members going over last minute details. They looked like they were expecting a crowd. If we were in Vegas I would say the new Ameristar sports book is one of the lamest in town but since we are in Omaha its the best by far.

Snapped this pic of the still flooded parking lot at Ameristar.
