Doozie's Homemade Ice Cream and Burgers - Former Jimmy's All American (Manawa)
Anyone know anything about this "Jimmy's All American Malt Shop and Grill" at the entrance to Lake Manawa?

Smells like a franchise, but I can't find any information on it.

Im guessing that since there isnt any info to be had on Google, or any franchising sites, it may be an original concept.

This is just a guess by following what little info is out there:
Jimmy's Malt Shop
From the pic I'm guessing at 1050 Wright Rd
Owned by R&R Equities LLC
Owned by H James Raltiff
Also owns Evans Ice Cream Operations LLC
May have been at one time the Evans Ice Cream at 108 E Broadway

Seems like too odd of a location for a Franchise... If its good an unique, this location will be just fine, but if its just average, there's just not enough around there to support it.jessep28 wrote:Smells like a franchise, but I can't find any information on it.
Close, the lot north of that, but same owner for both lots.Coyote wrote:From the pic I'm guessing at 1050 Wright Rd

If they can pull off a Manawa "Christy Creme" this could be the bomb.
Isn't there another famous ice cream place in south bluffs near the beginning of the Wabash Trace Nature Trail?

There was an ice cream/burger place there for years. I stopped there for a cone or a malt a hundred times before I drove around the lake. Nobody in the car ever once said "Don't stop there I don't want a cone or a drink lets just drive around the lake." Ice cream treats and drives around the lake go hand in hand. I say build it and we will come!

Do you remember where?GrandpaaSmucker wrote:There was an ice cream/burger place there for years. I stopped there for a cone or a malt a hundred times before I drove around the lake. I think this is the perfect place for a burger/ice cream shack.
Even if it is a dive but has good Scooby Snacks for quick picnics, this place will rock.
I wish I had the coin and insight or I would have jumped on this.

It was right there on the corner. It went thru a few different owners over the years. I think it might of been called Misty's for a few years. It started out a shack like a Dairy Sweet or King and in the late 80s they added a drive thru and an indoor dining area.Coyote wrote:Do you remember where?GrandpaaSmucker wrote:There was an ice cream/burger place there for years. Re: Jimmy's All American Malt Shop and Grill (Manawa)
Looks like Jimmy's will not be the first in Lake Manawa. Doozie's took over and rebuilt the Crumbs Bakery Cafe on 321 Comanche and opened in April. Apparently there used to be a Lake Manawa Ice Cream Shoppe at 4105 Comanche, most likely what Grandpa was referring to.
Now I come back to this thread because of the $750k upgrade to the old 1993 Dream Playground at Lake Manawa State Park. Skins mentions this in the Lake Manawa Improvents thread - don't know how far they have come, but ice cream and good playgrounds...

I noticed the other day when I was at the Casey's across the highway from it that there is a foundation in for the building, and markers for what might light poles in the future parking lot. Anyone know if there planning to start building come spring time?

Developer hopes to open ’50s-style ‘burger joint’ by August
To address his passion for that earlier time, Ratliff is developing Jimmy’s All-American near the intersection of Veterans Memorial Highway and South 11th Street, an eatery that will seat 100 he hopes to have open for business by Aug. 1.
The menu will focus on burgers, fries, hot beef sandwiches and ice cream treats — the away-from-mom’s-table staples of teens of the ’50s and ’60s.
Inside, there will be a 1950s jukebox with play selectors at every booth.

Re: Jimmy's All American Malt Shop and Grill (Manawa)
Ate lunch today at the Golden Coral in Council Bluffs since I heard they reopened last week. Took a ride around Lake Manawa and could not help but notice that Jimmy's looked the same as it did this spring. They have not even paved the parking lot yet. No way they are opening in August. Something is odd about this project that could have easily been done by Memorial Day. Smells like a money problem where they either don't have enough or they got too much too care.

How was Golden Coral? Was it an aquarium buffet concept?GrandpaaSmucker wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 1:48 pm Ate lunch today at the Golden Coral in Council Bluffs since I heard they reopened last week. For aquariums you need to check out a place that opened up this year in Omaha off of 132nd & Center called "Fish Freaks." They got the best aquariums this area has seen since the Fish Bowl was around. But this isn't about aquariums is it?Linkin5 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 05, 2018 4:18 pmHow was Golden Coral? Drove by yesterday August 14th and nothing had been done here in months. It looked like an electrician might have been there. No chance for this to be open by Labor day.

Food runners, dish washers and juke boxes: The vision for a new Council Bluffs restaurant
Sounds like things are still a go, but no date yet. I would think a place like this would have loved to have be open during the summer.Jimmy’s is two stories high. The upper space is reserved for the management office and break rooms, while the main floor is reserved for a car-hop-like dining experience without the roller skates.
So far, Hughes said they have 15 employees on board, but will hire 30-40 more before opening, although, the opening date has not been identified.

The funny thing is the article stated that they need to be doing numbers close to McDonalds. Sorry, but other than the opening few months I doubt that will happen.

The odds of that happening are about 1 in a million! The fancy light poles have caught my attention mostly because you can see a lot of care and time was put into the installation of them. That is wild article indeed. These guys are half crazy but this is America and as long as they got the cash proceed.skinzfan23 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:40 pm The funny thing is the article stated that they need to be doing numbers close to McDonalds. I drove by last night and noticed that most of the exterior signage was lit up, but still doesn't look like opening is any time soon.

According to a story from the Nonpareil: Jimmy's opening is going to be delayed by several months.
I don't think this isn't anything that we all couldn't have predicted. I think they are already delayed by a few months. They wanted to open this summer and its November. I would be surprised if they open before next summer.

Drove by Jimmys on April 17th and it still looked like it did back in January. Maybe this place is open by the 4th of July but I sure would not bet on it. On another note I did see about 100 big white pelicans and a couple of bald eagles hanging out at lake Manawa.
