Local eyesore to disappear

Post by icejammer »

(yeah, yeah, yeah, there's a lot more eyesores in CB that need to disappear, so don't even go there...)

UP Connection Federal Credit Union moving and building

If the name Jakob's Lounge rings a bell with anyone, that's where this is going. They used to do a pretty decent restaurant business, esp. at noon, but closed shop several years ago - the place was really starting to look crappy. They just need to keep moving down 35th St a couple more blocks with the bulldozer and take out the old filling station next....

Construction finished up ahead of schedule on the new building, looks a lot nicer than their previous digs (and also better than what was previously on this current lot):

Another local eyesore, the former Holiday Inn off N. 25th at I-29 is slated to be condemned by the City and torn down by next spring.  Haven't heard what's going to replace it yet.

Hotel demolition OK’d
The Council Bluffs City Council Monday evening unanimously gave the go-ahead to start the demolition process on a long vacant building on Nash Boulevard that has created concerns from neighbors and city officials about safety and appearance.

But when – or if – that demolition occurs is now the big question. . . .
