I've never eaten Cox before.  I did hear most of their meat comes from the butt, though.

Nebugeater and I went over there today.  It was good.  I didn't know what to expect since it was a "Fast Food" type restaurant (has a drive through window) but my lunch was good.  You order at the counter and they call your name when the food is ready.  We arrived at 11:30 and within a few min the line at lunch stretched from the counter all the way to the door and was that way the rest of the time we were there.  I had brisket and sausage, both were nice sized portions.   Nebugeater did point out that it wasn't very smokey, but other than that, the brisket was very tender and quite moist.  The sausage was good, nothing mind blowing, but still good.  I had Mashed Potatoes with cheese and mac n cheese for my sides.  Both could have been a bit warmer, but the flavor was fine.  I think the most things ranged from $9 to $13.

Overall a nice place and I would go back again.

Will add my details in adition to what Brad had to say

We each had a two meat / two side combo

Service was quick and we had our food after only a few min of sitting down after ordering.

Overall I think that it was good too.  I will not grade them well on the baked beans, one of my sides.  I have had baked beans at a fair number of BBQ places and they were near the bottom of what I like, but that can just be a preferance thing.  I like them with a bit more bite to them when eating with BBQ.

The Brisket was great and as Brad stated, moist and I would all not a lot of fat as some Brisket can have.

THe Potato Salid I had as my second side was above Avg.

The Pulled Pork was good but I like it a little more smokey.  I always taste some without suace and this was a little bland

The three sauces I tried were fine.

Overall a good experience and I will go back.

Kay Jewelers coming to Council Bluffs' Metro Crossing
Kay Jewelers is coming to Metro Crossing in Council Bluffs.

The city is ready to issue a building permit to Kay, a part of Sterling Jewelers Inc. of Akron, Ohio, according to chief building official Steve Carmichael.

“There’s a permit ready for the contractor to pick it up,” Carmichael said. “They just need to stop by and pay.”

Kay Jewelers will fill the vacant location at 3617 Denmark Drive, Suite 500, near Panera Bread. The jewelry store is expected to open in April, according to Kim Kanary with Sterling. . . .

Too bad, this was pretty decent BBQ:

Cox Brothers BBQ closes at Metro Crossing
Cox Brothers BBQ has closed its doors in the Metro Crossing Shopping Center, said the franchise’s owner.

The restaurant closed following last Saturday’s business, said Blake Bauer, CEO of HCI Hospitality. The restaurant’s catering service will continue out of a partner company, Ingredient, located at Midtown Crossing in Omaha, Bauer said. . .

. . .Workers on Monday were renovating the interior for a possible new eatery.

“We plan to lease the building to another restaurateur,” he said, adding that the search for a new eatery hasn’t yet started.

I tried it twice and thought the meat was very good.  The only thing I think that held them back was the price.  For a few pieces of meat on a bun, one side and a drink, it was around $10.  Although BBQ is usually a little more expensive due to the time and effort put into the smoking of the meats, I just think the pricepoint was a little too high for casual restaurant in CB.  I had a voucher to use there, but it looks like that won't be happening.

I tried it once.  It was good. But apparently not good enough for me to want to go back. Better BBQ at Boxers or Hog Stop in CB. Price wasn't a concern.

Boxers is where I go. Sometimes I'll even just stop in to get their pre-cooked ribs from the cooler.

My friend that works at Famous Dave's said they are moving into Cox brothers building and it's going to be fast casual dining, so she is out of a job (there will be no servers).

So will they be closing by the Arena? I would assume so as close as the locations would be.

Cox to become Famous Dave's - Confirmed
With the MAC location in the final year of its lease, he said it made sense to move to a more heavily trafficked area.
"As amazing as business has been over the years, the visibility hasn't been very good," he said. "It never developed like we thought it would when we chose that location 10 years ago."

Good move for Famous Dave's but I really liked the feel of their current building by the Mid America Center. Too bad the rest of the development never came to fruition.

Looks like the Famous Dave's in the former Cox BBQ location is opening today.

Wonder if they will grow this concept at other locations. Basically Cox format with FD menu.

"Our prices are a little lower, but the value is still there," Yakopec said. "You will still get a big plate."

All of the barbeque options at the former location will be available in the spot, she said.

Dick's Sporting Goods store proposed for C.B.
A Dick’s Sporting Goods store may be coming to Council Bluffs.

The City Council Monday evening will be asked to amend the original commercial development plan around the Target store at Metro Crossing Shopping Center, a change that could open the door to the retailer, according to the Community Development Department

The description of the requested City Council action notes the eventual plan is to subdivide the vacant property that Target owns to allow a Dick’s Sporting Goods near the Target store and a future multi-tenant building built in the current Target parking lot.

Moving the buckle would be the absolute nail in the coffin for the mall... I have an idea for the old mall but doubt the owners would invest hah

I just saw that also. It appears that there are currently 10 in the metro and only 3 are scheduled to close.

I am surprised there are that many. That's almost as many as there are Scooters!

Final property being developed at Metro Crossing

Mark Andersen who, in partnership with Kimco Realty, developed the Metro Crossing shopping center, said he is serving as general contractor for the four-bay, 10,000-square-foot addition to the shopping center that is now under construction east of Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Kasia Yuska, a spokesperson for Pine Tree Development, the owner of Metro Crossing, said the only signed lease for the new building is with Cox Communications.

The 299,578-square-foot shopping center is anchored by Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, Hobby Lobby, PetSmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Dollar Tree and Ulta, among others. In addition to a variety of restaurants and other tenants, Metro Crossing features shadow-anchors Target and Kohl’s.

Yuska said the purchase price was $51.55 million.
