St. Albert Capital Campaign

St. Albert kicks off capital campaign

Image
On Wednesday at 9 a.m., the St. Albert School District will announce a five-year capital campaign to build a new primary school on the existing Gleason Avenue campus.
According to the district, a new elementary school would:

- Help facilitate a projected 5 to 10 percent increase in the district's enrollment

- Increase available learning space for pre-K through third grade students by 35 percent

- Annual expenditures would decrease by $100,000 per year by having all the students on one campus

Having all the students at one site is more attractive for incoming families, as 85 percent of St. Albert families reside near the Gleason campus.

No exact construction date has been set, Osborne said, because any school in the Des Moines Diocese (which includes St. Albert) must have the entire amount of the capital campaign pledged before a date can be set.

However, the district is hoping that construction of the new primary building could begin in the fall of 2006.
Rumor is that over half of the capital needed has already been raised through private contacts.

Addition nearing for St. Albert
Officials with Saint Albert Catholic Schools in Council Bluffs are predicting construction of a two-story addition to the Gleason Avenue school building could start later this year.

Saint Albert President Brian Osborne said the school signed a contract last week with BCDM Architects and Peter Kiewit & Sons to complete the design and development phase of the project.

He said the school hopes to get final approvals and begin ground breaking by fall in order to have the children in the new facility during the 2008-09 school year. . .

Project to put St. Albert students under one roof
With a $10,000 boost from Our Lady of Carter Lake Catholic Church, officials of St. Albert Catholic Schools in Council Bluffs are ready to move forward with construction of a new elementary school.

St. Albert had hoped to break ground last summer but fell short of its $5 million fundraising goal.

"It's a nice wrap-up of the campaign," Jenny Van Soelen, a spokeswoman for St. Albert, said of the parish's gift.

This is old news, but just yesterday in the paper...

School announces anonymous $2M gift
St. Albert Catholic School in Council Bluffs has received its largest donation ever.

School officials announced Monday that an anonymous donor has given the school a $2 million gift, which will fund the construction of the St. Albert Early Childhood Development Center. . .

The gift comes on the heels of the successful completion of a $5 million fundraising campaign to build a two-story addition to the school on 400 Gleason Ave. . . .

With the addition of the early childhood center, Van Soelen said, "We will be able to provide services from infancy through high school," and Osborne called it "cause for great celebration." . . .

The child care facility will be about 6,000 to 7,000 square feet, while the school addition will add another 30,000 square feet and will include 10 classrooms, a gymnasium and multipurpose room, a commons area and office space. . . .

St. Albert groundbreaking ceremony set
St. Albert Catholic School officials will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the new primary school addition and Early Childhood Development Center Friday at 9 a.m. at the school site at 400 Gleason Ave.

A $5 million fundraising campaign completed last year will allow the school to build a two-story addition and consolidate the grade school and high school onto one campus. . . .

The new facilities will open for the 2009-10 school year, and the school will then be equipped to care for children from infancy through high school.

The childcare facility will be about 6,000 to 7,000 square feet, while the school addition will add another 30,000 square feet and will include 10 classrooms, a gymnasium and multipurpose room, a commons area and office space. . . .
