I was told there will be a soft open in the next week/week and a half.  Grand open at end of the month, just like it was originally slated.  They were hoping to open mid-month but didn't make the progress they were shooting for.

You would think they would close on the afternoon of the 24th instead.  Sunday is a big shopping day.  Supersaver better staff up for those three days.

I was thinking that too.  I never understood why it couldn't a more seamless transition than that.

That's a lot of pumpkins for a store that only plans on being in business a week before Halloween.

enh, maybe not.  It's not solid all the way through, and many people still haven't gotten theirs yet.  They are going to be swamped this week, and they sent out coupons for 5% off entire grocery bill for the next 8 weeks.  I'm willin to bet they get em moved by halloween.

On a different note, it looks like the lot makes more sense in regards to traffic flow than the madison hy-vee.  I was never a fan of the 2 way in each lane because it created a jam right when you turn in due to all the different directions of traffic.

Hy-Vee opens new $15M West Broadway store
Hy-Vee’s new $15 million grocery store in Council Bluffs has all the trimmings: A floral shop, extensive organic and natural food selections, a deli and food service area that offers sushi and other treats, a pharmacy and extensive wine and beer selections.

There’s even a club room for community gatherings, wine tasting and nutrition and cooking classes. . . .

Helpful smiles in the new aisles

Joe Ruff WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER wrote:The Hy-Vee opening Tuesday at 2323 West Broadway has something for nearly anyone.

It's double the size of the Hy-Vee it is replacing just 1½ miles away, which was built in 1978. The company also has a large grocery store near Mall of the Bluffs and a pharmacy in Council Bluffs.

Probably a HyVee press release printed word for word by both papers.

Both papers frequently borrow from each other, being in the same "group" of newspapers.

No, it looks like the Nonpareil story borrowed heavily from the OWH story, then threw in a few paragraphs to make it their "own".  Interestingly, some of the content in the Nonpareil story yesterday taken from the OWH story is no longer on-line.

First National to add Bluffs branch

First National to add Bluffs branch

Omaha World-Herald
http://www.omaha.com/article/20120411/M ... ffs-branch
First National Bank of Omaha is building its second Council Bluffs office on the south side of Broadway at 25th Street, in a block anchored by a Hy-Vee supermarket.

The new branch, due to open in late October just east of Thomas Jefferson High School, will have the same design as First National offices opened in recent years at 50th Street and Ames Avenue and at 158th Street and Giles Road, the Omaha bank said.

Hy-Vee also owns property just south of the bank site. Pat Hensley, assistant vice president of operations for Hy-Vee, said the land is being used for employee parking and no decision has been made on other possible uses.

The new bank office will be First National's 93rd location and the 37th in Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs and Glenwood, Iowa.

Finally going to start building.  This branch has been in the works since they started building the HyVee.  Probably talked about in that HyVee thread.

I think it has a little ways to go but i could be wrong. The walls were prefabbed, and as of the other day they still had supports up on the inside with 0% of the interior done. not yet sure if the windows are in.

Hy-Vee owns the land, but dang if I know.  I can't believe that they need more parking, but maybe they do?

Confirmed as a parking lot. The employees stated it's an employee parking lot as theirs was taken away for the gas station

Time sure does fly.  Really hard to believe that this Hy Vee has already been open three years!
