P.S. With all the discussion of smoking vs. non-smoking elsewhere, please don't bring it here. Thanks.
Barley's adds space, non-smoking section
andOne establishment. Two big rooms.
Meet the newly remodeled Barley's.
The popular eating and drinking establishment at 114 W. Broadway has marked five years in business with an expansion that more than doubled its space, including the addition of a non-smoking area.
Tiffany lights hang over the 42-foot oak bar, and the 14-foot-high ceilings adorned by ceiling fans provide a roomy feel. The brick walls and the old wood floors are set in contrast to four big-screen televisions and a 7-by-10-foot mirror behind the bar, where 12 beers are on tap.
Johnson said "opportunity," as much as anything, led to the expansion and it was needed because the bar and the restaurant didn't always mix well.
"I was kind of in-between," he said.
Now he hopes to attract a following that crosses all age groups. The big-screen TVs will be used for sports specials and Barley's will focus as much on food as beverages, offering what Johnson calls "standard American fare" for lunch and dinner. Seafood will be included on the menu.
