Condominiums sprout on a bluff
A visit to the Carleton Condominiums, overlooking the corner of Eighth Street and Parkwild Drive, unveiled construction methods previously unseen in a Council Bluffs residence and most often used in bridge construction.
That starts with the sandwich-panel concrete frame, made with 4-inch-thick steel-reinforced concrete walls on the inside and outside with foam insulation inside linked by a fiberglass connector that is not thermally conductive.
Tadros and Associates of Omaha provided structural engineering, McIntosh said, and the project has attracted visitors from Brazil, Egypt and Nepal. The Architects Collaborative of Spencer designed the floor plan and handled mechanical and electrical engineering.
A model unit is expected to be ready for public viewing in September, with initial occupancy shortly thereafter. McIntosh said the units are to be priced from $200,000 to $280,000 and will be marketed by Heartland Properties.
