Mercy Hospital Set For Another Round of Remodeling

Post by icejammer »

Mercy to begin $3.7 million remodeling project in September
Alegent Health Mercy Hospital will begin a $3.7 million remodeling project next month to make more patient rooms private and family-friendly.

The project will include 52 patient rooms on the hospital's second and fourth floors, beginning with 22 on second, said Marie Knedler, vice president and chief operating officer.
The renovation is similar to one completed on the hospital's third floor six years ago, Knedler said.

"We converted to all private rooms, and that has just been the greatest thing we've done for patients, families and confidentiality," she said.

Nurses and supplies will be decentralized. Instead of a central nurses station, the floors will have several smaller "pods" around the unit, Knedler said. That will move nurses and supplies closer to patients and reducing walking for staff. Mobile computers will be used to record patient information.
Future projects will include remodeling the intensive care unit and the behavioral health area, she said.

Mercy launches $25M expansion
Alegent Health Mercy Hospital broke ground this morning for a $25 million expansion and remodeling project.
Completion is expected by 2011. . . .

The construction and renovation at Mercy is part of Alegent Health's "Generation Patient" initiative, a $325 million reinvestment into the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area. Supported in part by philanthropy, all five Alegent Health metro hospital locations will be enhanced and expanded to better serve health care consumers in the region.

Construction and renovation plans began last year at the organization's three other metro hospitals including Bergan Mercy Medical Center, Lakeside Hospital and Midlands Hospital in Papillion. Alegent Health Immanuel Medical Center began its renovation earlier this summer. . . .
