About time the city decides to give the locals a nice place... A long time CB resident recently told me they were mor interested in tourism than local recreation.

Latest grant keeps Fairmount Park restoration project moving forward
A recent Iowa West Foundation grant is helping Council Bluffs move forward in its “Return to Fairmount Park.”
The foundation’s grant of $100,000, announced last week, will go toward the creation of a splash pad and plaza in the park.
In November, the project received a $100,000 lead donation from the Rotary Club of Council Bluffs. A $200,000 state grant has been secured, along with city funds totaling $625,000, Foster said.

Fairmount Park may get water playground
The large green area has always been there, but now there’s an effort to “Return to Fairmount Park.”

That’s the name of a project the city hopes will revitalize an area where children can play water games and families can enjoy afternoon picnics while gazing at the surrounding beauty. . . .

Sounds like the plan got approval from city council and is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Rendering of new entrance sign to Fairmont Park.

The commission this week selected the concepts by MTRL Design of Omaha. The designers created precision-cut patterns of oak leaves with an attached map of the park behind the leaves for the entry look.
In the park, there would be trail signs that feature maps of those trails, Mauer said.

A friend of mine co-owns mtrl. They do really cool work, have tons of talent, and are a great selection to design the sign. Glad to see it.

Drive through today and they have bout down a ton of trees in the park. Nothing to make a dent in the overall number of trees, but easily hundreads. More like a thinning than a clear cut. They still need to clean out the trees at the lookout.
