Kanesville Inn

Site of new motel approved near casinos
The commission gave its blessing to the Midwestern Group L.L.P., which wants to build a 59-room, two-story motel at the southeast corner of Nebraska Avenue and South 35th Street.

"We're close to the interstate and the casinos, it's a growing area," said John Coppock, a member of the Midwestern Group. "We looked into the capacity of that area, and we thought there was a need."

Council Bluffs already has a high motel occupancy rate of 77 percent, he said, and loses potential business for lack of rooms for such big events as the nearby College World Series in Omaha.

The independently run motel would be known as Kanesville Inn and would feature a 13,003-square-foot main floor with a pool, while the second floor would be 12,719 square feet. The indoor pool would feature a heated whirlpool, Coppock said.
