. . . the City Council set a public hearing for June 25 for a proposal to sell 40 acres of city-owned land to a Florida renewable energy company.
The company, NexGen Biofuels, is considering building a $50 million biodiesel plant on the land, which is just east of I-29 near the border with Mills County.
The sale price would be $740,000, or $18,500 an acre.

New York-based NexGen Biofuels, Israeli company Healthcare Technologies Ltd. and its largest shareholder Gamida for Life B.V. have participated in a reverse merger, in which Healthcare Technologies will purchase NexGen’s assets and sell its current business. For NexGen, which has proposed several biodiesel and ethanol production projects, the transaction will be a fast track to becoming publicly traded on NASDAQ. NexGen COO Jim McAlinden told Biodiesel Magazine that NexGen anticipates a spring groundbreaking for its biodiesel plant in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and its ethanol plant in Red Oaks, Iowa. The company has options for ethanol plants at three other sites in Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana
OWH wrote:The City of Council Bluffs decided Monday not to offer 40 acres of land to a Florida-based renewable energy company.
NexGen Biofuels had said it was considering the site near the Mills County line as part of a $50 million biodiesel plant project.
But council members said repeated requests to get more information on the scope of the potential project were not answered.
The council voted 4-0 not to provide the company with an option agreement giving NexGen the right to buy the land. The land sale price would have been $750,000.
Councilman Scott Belt suggested that in the future the city should ask for site proposals before starting sale negotiations.
