I think the Fieldhouse is going to start first but it made it sound like both should be under construction this summer.

New hotel planned near South 35th Street, 23rd Avenue

Image
The city council on Monday evening voted 5-0 to approve a recommendation by the Community Development Department for a four-story, 63-unit My Place Hotel on currently vacant ground along South 35th Street and 23rd Avenue.

The hotel would be built on 1.8 acres on the north side of 23rd Avenue where it turns into South 35th Street, just to the southwest of the Star Cinema.
Besides the lodging units, the hotel would have an outdoor patio near the main building entrance and an indoor swimming pool. Hotel access would come from a private driveway and two interconnections with the abutting Star Cinema site

It screams "Kidz Fun Zone Pizza Party Place", so like Chuck E Cheese from the 1990s

Isn't it just re-purposing space that was already there and unused?

No, they built the structure on the former parking lot next to the MAC. Granted it is just a concrete floor with steel beams and a roof, so that is probably why it went up so quickly.

Iowa West ends deal with fieldhouse company
The Iowa West Foundation board of directors voted unanimously to end an agreement with the FieldhouseUSA, a company based in Frisco, Texas, that had been its partner in developing the 105,000-square-foot indoor athletics facility in Council Bluffs.

Tulipana said the only things that will change for the facility will be its name – now, the Iowa West Foundation Fieldhouse – and the company managing its operations.
The building is still set to open in mid-January, he said, and the change won’t require Iowa West to spend any additional money to run the fieldhouse.
Tulipana said the foundation has two goals for the project: ensuring the facility serves as an economic driver by bringing large-scale youth sports tournaments to Council Bluffs and guaranteeing public access to the space

Interesting... Also from the Article:
John Schreier, Nonpareil wrote:Iowa West President and CEO Pete Tulipana said the separation came about because the two sides were unable to come to an agreement on the amount of time and access the general public would have to the fieldhouse.

I guess it depends how much sway Fieldhouse has in the circuit. Gotta hope this doesn't lead to less events.

New scoreboard coming to Mid-America Center; signage improvements planned

The new scoreboard will feature a new high-resolution LED display board and “will provide the guests with some of today’s most advanced video technology enhancing their overall experience,” according to Miller.
The cost of the project is $640,000, with Miller noting the funds will come from the city’s capital improvement funds.

Installation work is scheduled to be complete by the end of May.

The council also voted to set a public hearing at its Jan. 28 meeting regarding signage at the Mid-America Center area.

If approved, the project would provide the Mid-America Center with “the latest, most reliable (outdoor) video board and signage technology available,” according to Miller.

Miller said an existing pylon sign located on the corner of Mid-America Drive and Marc Boulevard is no longer operational and will be reconstructed. A new pylon sign will be located at the corner of 23rd Avenue and Bass Pro Drive.

The estimated cost of the project is $1 million — which will be split evenly, with $500,000 coming from city capital improvement funds and $500,000 from an Iowa West Foundation grant.

Looks like they will be adding the sport complex for soccer and baseball soon to this area. This is becoming a nice enclave entertainment/sports draws. I hope the first year's NJCAA wrestling championships go well at the Mid-America Center.

The sports facilities are great additions. They should just fully pull the plug on the mid American Center and convert it to a sports center as well.

Last and only time I was there was in 2002 for a Linkin Park concert, before Chi Health (Qwest) Center had completed construction. I remember Chester Bennington being somewhat confused whether he was in Omaha or somewhere in Iowa.

It’s a brutal business in this day and age. The MAC is competing against Ralston and Baxter for less than top tier acts or up and comers. The truly big acts go to CHI or Lincoln. Even with the contacts and reach of Caesars, it’s a small venue in a smaller market. Until COVID, the MAC was better off financially with Caesars Management. COVID has sent just about every business into a tailspin, especially those that rely on lots of bodies in close contact.
