Mall of the Bluffs. HDRs new HQ site.
Not sure how I feel about this since they are already moving the police station from downtown and now the post office. I am glad that the Mall of the Bluffs is going to get used more but it isn't very centrally located.iamjacobm wrote:CB's central post office is moving to MoB.
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) — Officials say the former Sears store in the Mall of the Bluffs will become the new home of the Council Bluffs Post Office.
The Daily Nonpareil reports that maintenance concerns at the current post office building are prompting the move.
The former Sears building site will offer the same services, including three retail windows, nearly 900 post office boxes and several parcel lockers. Carriers also will work from the new location.
Work on the new location is expected to be finished in late first quarter 2018.
The new post office facility in the former Sears building will be about 20,000 square feet and offer the same services currently provided to Council Bluffs customers, including three retail windows, nearly 900 post office boxes and several parcel lockers offering post office box customers an a convenient and secure delivery option to pick up packages without going to the retail counter.
The post office had been located at the corner of West Broadway and South Sixth Street since 1959. Postal Service officials announced last July that the former Sears building at the Mall of the Bluffs had been selected to be leased as the new site for the Council Bluffs Post Office.
A portion of the parking lot near the building has been reconfigured and will be fenced to provide secure parking for postal vehicles. There will also be parking available for post office employees and customers.
That was the Target Store. The City let other developers cannibalize two of the Malls anchor tenants. It is more a symbol of retail plaza mania.nebugeater wrote: ↑Tue Apr 24, 2018 10:14 am Is it just me or is there a bit or irony that the Post Office is located in an old retail location while delivering packages from on line sales that at least played a part in the space becoming vacant.
While technically correct, that sentence was poorly written. The Council Bluffs Post Office had been on that site for many years until the older building it was in needed to be replaced. Then the Post Office was temporarily moved to the site of the former City Auditorium. Then, once the new Federal Building was completed in 1959 (on the same corner of West Broadway and Sixth Street, right where the older Post Office was), the Post Office moved back in.skinzfan23 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 24, 2018 9:02 am The post office had been located at the corner of West Broadway and South Sixth Street since 1959.
A unique retail concept will occupy the former JCPenney space at the Mall of the Bluffs at 1751 Madison Ave., bringing a Kansas City, Missouri-based, store to Council Bluffs.
“It’s $5” is in the name, but the products are overstocked goods purchased from Amazon suppliers, items that have been returned and did not have proper packaging to be resold, according to the owner, Ryan Wager.
The company buys truckloads of goods from suppliers and receives the loads on Fridays. Wager and his team will pick through and sort the items into bins for sale the next day. On Saturday and Sunday, every item in the store is $5. Monday, the items are two for $5. Tuesday, the items are three for $5. Thursday, as the bins are sorted and sifted through, remaining items are 10 for $5.
It’s $5 will have a soft opening beginning Nov. 17.
Wager said the store will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday through Thursday
Interesting concept. It sounds pretty cool based on some reviews from their Belton, MO, location. Will probably skip the opening day rush, but will definitely check it out with the family some time.skinzfan23 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 10:01 am It's $5 store to occupy JC Penney space at Mall of the Bluffs

That could be very interesting. Are they going to create a gym type area?skinzfan23 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 20, 2018 12:52 pm My wife is a teacher at Wilson in CB, so I knew this was coming as long as the bond was approved.
After reading the story, it turns out, at least in the short term, this may be a good thing for other vacant spaces in the mall. I know right now that many of the teachers don't have time to get lunch, but with a few new places opening in the food court they will have an option to run down and get food in 15 min. If I was in the restaurant business, I would think about leasing a space there for this very reason.
I was just wondering for PE tooskinzfan23 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 21, 2018 8:43 amGood question, I didn't even think of that. I wonder if they could still use the gyms at the existing schools for sporting events.
BVH Architecture now estimates the cost of renovation at $6,249,400 – up from an earlier estimate of $3,949,273 — because of problems discovered during the design process, Meyer told the board. When combined with the $1,904,325 purchase price, that brings the total estimated cost to $8,153,725. That’s $2,653,725 more than the $5.5 million earmarked for acquisition and renovation of the facility in the bond issue approved on Sept. 11.
I just went to this store last week. What a dump. Heed my warning and don't waste your time on this place. The place has not even been remodeled since it was a Penneys. No bathroom! Just disgusting.ita wrote: ↑Thu Nov 08, 2018 10:19 amInteresting concept. It sounds pretty cool based on some reviews from their Belton, MO, location. I could give a rat's arse how nice the store is if it has good deals, to be honest, I don't go to the Dollar Tree because I like the ambiance.GrandpaaSmucker wrote: ↑Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:30 pmI just went to this store last week. Is there mall access?

It might be farther back in this thread but doesn't Dillard's own that piece of the Mall? Will be interesting to see if the Mall owner or the City buys that property. Would certainly simplify future redevelopment plans.
That store is half the size of their current stores and at least 2 generations of design behindTurtle9160 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 7:39 pm Council Bluffs School District approves agreement with Menards for Mall of the Bluffs project
Sounds like this is the end for the main part of the Mall Of The Bluffs, the temporary middle school for Kirn, and Post Office will remain but the rest sounds to be coming down to make room for a new Menards. Has anyone heard why they are moving from there current location at the Mannwa Center off South Expressway to this new planed location?
Makes sense then, I haven't paid much attention to the other stores in the area over the last few years.ProgKingHughesker wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 10:34 amThat store is half the size of their current stores and at least 2 generations of design behindTurtle9160 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 7:39 pm Council Bluffs School District approves agreement with Menards for Mall of the Bluffs project
