Bunge North America is looking into expanding their soybean plant south of Council Bluffs. . . .
Beckman said the new warehouse would be on the Pottawattamie County side of the site and would require the construction of additional rail lines in the county.
The $13 million project would include $5.8 million for building construction and $3.5 million for rail development.
Bunge is asking the county to provide a tax abatement on the addition in order to receive income tax credits and a sales tax refund from the state of Iowa. . . .
Beckman said the company is looking at a better distribution model. Currently, Beckman said, all raw materials come to the plant by truck, but all products leave by rail.
The wholesale sale of fertilizer from the plant would allow empty trucks dropping off raw material to leave with a load of fertilizer to distribute at their return destination. Likewise, trains would transport the fertilizer to the warehouse before taking a finished product for distribution. . . .
