Wichita's future isn't looking very bright right now.Faced with defense budget reductions, the Boeing Co. announced Wednesday that it will close its defense plant in Wichita by the end of 2013.
The closure will cost more than 2,160 workers their jobs and end the firm’s presence in a city where it has been a major employer for generations.

The daily Oklahoman is reporting that OKC will get up to 1,000 but no less than 800 new jobs from this closing and San Antonio,Seattle will get the rest.Last year Boeing closed it's Long Beach,CA facility and is now in the process of moving 550 jobs into OKC,so thats between 1,400-1,600 new Boeing jobs coming here within 1 year. This is horrible for Wichita because their economy IS aerospace and Boeing has had a presence there for 80 years.Usually I would be real happy about news like this, but I can feel for the people affected,it must be tough!
Learjet at least is adding jobs in Wichita just not as much as they are losing with Boeing.
