Colorado Fires

Post by almighty_tuna »

This wasn't a great weekend for fires in CO. So far I know of fires by Durango, Colorado Springs, Estes Park, Leadville and the High Park fires. What's the scoop, Coyote & Waggs?

Last I heard there were 8 fires of various sizes going today. It's been brutal hot (100+ in Denver last 3 days) and the humidity is crazy low, even for here. I think I saw 5 or 6% today. With all the beetle kill in the mountains and no snow pack from a shitty winter, it's a bad situation. Too warm, too dry, too much fuel. The High Park fire is the second largest by area in Colorado history and the most destructive in history in properties lost. I think its' back down to 45% containment after it flared back up. Start doing rain dances or something for us.
