A Dubai Architecture Firm Wants To Build A Skyscraper That Rotates Like A Rubik's Cub

http://www.businessinsider.com/dubai-bu ... ees-2013-8
There's a plan in Dubai for an 80-story skyscraper with floors that can rotate 360 degrees every 90 minutes, according to Curbed.

The building design was dreamed up by architect David Fisher of Dynamic Architecture, and looks like an undulating Rubik's Cube.

According to the video about the project, tenants would get a range of views as the room would rotate slowly throughout the day, and could be controlled by voice command.

I think it is rather odd that, for a city as well developed as Dubai, they don't have a central sewer system. Each fantastical building has a large septic tank in it, even the Burj al Khalifa, that a convoy of trucks empty every day. There are so many of these trucks that it often takes 24 hours or more for them to get from any particular building to the dumping site. They even had an issue with some trucks dumping into the Persian Gulf recently.

When you go from rags to riches to extreme debt in 20 years, things can be forgotten.

I don't think they were necessarily forgotten. It's hard to forget something that every other major metropolis has for 20 years. I think priorities are misplaced. You can have the best fur coat in the world, but when you're still naked under it...

More of what I was getting at. Dubai is more or less a joke, in my mind anyway.

Agreed. The some of the buildings are nice, but a lot of them are almost gaudy to the point of tastelessness. Also, The World Archipelago is disappearing.

The only thing I'll give Dubai props for is that they knew they wouldn't make money off oil forever, so they started to diversify their assets. Smart.

True, but when your diversification is more or less centered only on real-estate, tourism, and having the newest world's largest yarn ball every few years... well...

Have spoken to a few people in my company who've lived/worked in the Emirates, and I'm convinced that it (they) is a classic "Potemkin village".  The rule of law does not exist there since the nation is run by a prince and 4 assistants. There was recently a story about a Swedish designer who was raped by a co-worker and subsequently thrown in jail for having sex outside of marriage, a British developer was imprisoned for going into debt (both he and his wife had their passports confiscated (the wife is living in her car).  These are just a few of the many instances of gross injustice in the Emirates.  I've also heard the stories about sewage dumping in the Gulf (and in the desert as well).  There are few building/construction/worker safety codes---stories of abuse and sh!tty construction are legend.  These idiotic American and European companies who've relocated their headquarters there may some day regret their decision.

But hey! Tall buildings! Look how advanced and forward-looking they are!

I've always thought Dubai (and the UAE in general), was nothing but a big pink flamingo, or a fat man wearing a hawaiian shirt in a casino buffet. They teter on the cusp of Islamic law, just enough to where they can still be d*cks, without scaring off foreign investment.

There will be camels roaming the streets of Dubai in 25 years, count on it.

Makes you wonder how they didn't arrest the entire cast of Sex and the City 2.

Because they weren't even allowed in the country. The Abu Dhabi segments were filmed in Morocco.

They should have been arrested anyway. That movie was awful.

i think I saw that movie. Wasn't it a documentary about a horse who lusted over random men?

Men who considered committing bestiality but decided it wasn't worth it?

Apparently this is old news, but I guess they also have Lamborghini police cars. Because of course Dubai would.
