Worldwide automotive giant Toyota plans to move a significant portion of its U.S. headquarters from California to West Plano.
The company is negotiating to buy an office site in Legacy business park, where it would locate more than 4,000 workers.
The manufacturer has been in talks for months with property owners and developers in Plano, real estate brokers familiar with the project say.

San Francisco-based Charles Schwab is one of a number of large companies eyeing Dallas-Fort Worth for possible expansion on the heels of Toyota Motor Co.'s decision to relocate its North American headquarters to the region.

In February, the Dallas Business Journal initially wrote about Charles Schwab's decision to move a "significant number of San Francisco-based jobs" to Texas and other locations in the next three to five years.
And others:
Charles Schwab is one of a number of large companies on a list of firms eyeing North Texas, which includes Google, Caterpillar and TD Ameritrade, said John Crawford, president and CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc.

That kind of job growth is almost hard to grasp. Companies sure do like Dallas.

Why would TD Ameritrade be on that list? Or were they looking there before they built their new tower here.

They have pretty major office presences in places from San Diego to Ft. Worth to New Jersey.

I haven't heard anything, but I know the office space in FW is cramped. I wouldn't be surprised if they expanded some. But nothing to the level of what they have here.

Toyota got $40 million in incentives from Tejas. A straight bribe. Colors one's thinking. From personal experience states love to throw money at jobs. Money, job training, tax abatement, rent....heck, play your cards right & you don't pay for dinner for years.

I saw an article that Texas is trying to get Sriracha to relocate to Texas as well because the current area they are in neighbors are complaining about the strong pepper fumes.

So basically the industrial area they're located in is gentrifying and the yuppies are surprised when the area around a Sriracha factory smells like peppers?

Texas has a craving for hot-sauce company
So it was pretty much a no-brainer for state Rep. Jason Villalba when he learned that the makers of the popular Sriracha hot sauce are having problems in California, where officials believe production of the spicy liquid is too pungent and may declare it a public nuisance.

He reached out to the people at Huy Fong Foods to let them know that their fierce red sauce — one of the top-selling condiments in the U.S. — would be a perfect fit for Texas. Now he and other officials are gearing up to head to California next week to make a formal pitch for the move.

From the same article:
Welcome to Texas, partner!

For years, Gov. Rick Perry has traveled the country, preaching a message of low taxes, smart regulations and job creation, hoping to lure residents and businesses to Texas.

Since 2000, when Perry first became governor, more than 100 California companies have moved to Texas — relocating their headquarters, expanding their business or doing a partial relocation.

Among those companies:

• Diodes Inc., which brought 100 jobs to Dallas in 2004
• Grifols USA, which brought 100 jobs to San Marcos in 2009
• LegalZoom.com, which brought 600 jobs to Austin in 2010
• Chevron Corp., which brought 1,752 jobs to Houston in 2013
• Flextronics/Motorola Mobility, which brought 2,000 jobs to Fort Worth in 2013
• MonkeySports, which announced this year that it’s bringing 225 jobs to Allen

A sampling of non-California businesses that chose to come to Texas:

• Toyota Motor North America recently announced that it is moving its headquarters to Plano, bringing a more than $300 million capital investment and a plan to employ nearly 4,000 people.
• Borusan Mannesmann Pipe announced last year that it will expand its manufacturing operations to the U.S. with a steel pipe plant in Baytown, creating 250 jobs and bringing $148 million in capital investment.
James Skinner Baking Co., based in Omaha, Neb., announced in 2012 that it would buy the former Sara Lee bakery in Paris and spend $25 million on upgrades. With the move came 393 jobs.

Remember with the new sewer fees, Skinner said they were going to leave Omaha. Last I heard they were going to talk, but I never head how that ended up.

Chalk up another corporate relocation for Dallas-Fort Worth at California's expense.
Amerflight LLC announced Thursday that it will relocate its headquarters and flight and maintenance operations from Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, California, to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
The company has 600 employees and 170-plane fleet make it the largest U.S. FAR Part 135 air cargo carrier, the company said in a release. Not all the employees will relocate to D/FW Airport, as many are stationed at the company's 17 bases around the country.

A San Diego software company is looking to make Dallas its new home.

A deal in the works could bring up to 1,000 new jobs to Dallas and save a troubled downtown skyscraper.

The KPMG Centre office tower has been owned by lenders since 2012 and is being sold to an Austin investor, World Class Capital Group.

As part of the pending transaction, the new owners are negotiating with a California-based company, Omnitracs LLC, that is looking to relocate major operations to Texas.

San Diego-based Omnitracs is one of several companies owned by Austin-based investor Vista Equity Partners that would move offices into the KPMG tower, real estate brokers say.

The deal could involve as much as 300,000 square feet of office space and would be the largest out-of-state move to downtown Dallas since Comerica Bank relocated in 2006.
Pretty insane stuff.

Texas also has extremely favorable laws and tort limits for businesses that are incorporated there. With the exception of debt collection laws, the laws in Texas are stacked very much in favor of big business rather than the consumer.

Even the seemingly prettiest of roses still has its thorns.

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/busin ... uptcy.html
Picture the next major American city to go bankrupt. What springs to mind? Probably not the swagger and sprawl of Dallas.

But there was Dallas’s mayor, Michael S. Rawlings, testifying this month to a state oversight board that his city appeared to be “walking into the fan blades” of municipal bankruptcy.

“It is horribly ironic,” he said.

Indeed. Dallas has the fastest economic growth of the nation’s 13 largest cities. Its streets hum with supersize cars and its skyline bristles with cranes. Its mayor is a former chief executive of Pizza Hut. Hundreds of multinational corporations have chosen Dallas for their headquarters, most recently Jacobs Engineering, which is moving to low-tax Texas from pricey Pasadena, Calif.

But under its glittering surface, Dallas has a problem that could bring it to its knees, and that could be an early test of America’s postelection commitment to safe streets and tax relief: The city’s pension fund for its police officers and firefighters is near collapse and seeking an immense bailout.
