Marina Torch Fire - Dubai

Post by RNcyanide »

Marina Torch Fire

One of the residential high-rises in Dubai suffered a major fire earlier. Reports included molten glass and heated metal flying through the wind to the ground. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

It did. You can see all the flaming debris whipping through the wind and the molten glass raining to the ground. Someone on another thread mentioned the legendarily shoddy building codes they have there. I wonder if this had anything to do with the fire.

This was the first I could find that wasn't filmed in portrait mode.

Don't want to go all "conspiracy theory," but why didn't this building go tumbling to the ground?

Because it's on fire from an accident, it doesn't have hundreds of gallons of jet fuel to spawn the fire.

It also didn't have a plane crash through and damage key structural components of a floor, jet fuel or no jet fuel.

I just don't get how the undamaged floors could be so brittle in the twin towers. i'm guessing nobody will be copy/pasting that design any time soon.

From what I read several years back, the core was damaged. So after one floor collapsed with the weight of however many floors above that, it was too much force for the floor under it and they buckled one by one. I'm not trying to start a 9/11 conspiracy argument (please don't ruin my topic. Please.), but it just seems a logical enough explanation to me.

uhhh.... not trying to "ruin" your topic. Cool, building on fire. I'll see my way out now.

Not directed at you, I just see how ugly this argument gets and don't want that to happen. Sorry about that.

They didn't start constructing the Marina Torch tower until 2007. Undoubtedly, post September 11, 2001 building designs, safety systems and materials were used.

It is called "Progressive Collapse"

No, it's not the same as the conservative's recent effort taint the word "progressive" for Democrats.

Glad nobody was hurt and the structure did not collapse. Still looks like quite a bit of damage though.

Assuming there's no critical structural damage, it should be relatively easy to repair. Still curious what caused it though.

Should we check and see if anyone from a few fire-prone Omaha apartments happened to move in recently?

I guess they have had other high rise fires in the last few years, and some of them were attributed to improperly discarded smoking materials. I bet you that's what happened here.
