“We’d look to get acts similar to what you’re seeing in Cedar Rapids and Des Moines,” Schamberger said.
As a comparison, a 7,000-seat arena would be a little smaller than the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, which has a maximum capacity of 9,000.
Schamberger said he hopes the facility would also attract state tournaments and other athletic events. It could also serve as a permanent home to an area hockey team, according to Hayworth.
An attached sports performance center could also offer development tools for athletes, including indoor golf or baseball training among other ideas, Hayworth said.

Coralville eyeing possible 7,000-seat arena for Iowa River Landing
Re: Coralville, IA Proposing New 7,000 Seat Arena
Saw that over on Mav Puck. I guess the speculation is that Iowa would be adding Hockey and joining the B1G hockey conference.

It is surprising to see that outside of Carver Hawkeye (which doesn't even hold concerts), the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area doesn't have an arena larger than the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids (holds around 6,500 for concerts). In fact, the only other arena in that area is the CR Ice Arena (4,000). We have the CLink (18,975), MAC (9,000), UNO (7,500) and Ralston Arena (4,600) and if you want to throw in the Civic (10,960), even though it isn't used.

CORALVILLE, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)-- Coralville is one step closer to breaking ground on an arena. The Iowa Department of Economic Development scored the project high enough to move it forward for further consideration. Coralville is one of five communities moving forward in the Iowa Reinvestment District Grant program. “For us and I think the whole IRL area it only boosts businesses,” says 30hop Assistant Manager Mike Waters. 30hop is a restaurant in the Iowa River Landing. Staff say they are extremely excited about their possible new neighbors. A 7,000 seat arena and a sports performance facility are one step closer to breaking ground across the street.........................................

This arena is now open and actually just stole the Iowa High School Volleyball from Cedar Rapids, which had been its home for the past 31 years. Huge loss for CR as this is the only annual event the city hosted and they will lose out on around $2 million annual economic impact.
