Maybe, in the next 5,000 years, we can get something of this scale. We can put them right where the Suburban Cyst on the Face of Omaha lurks.

Here's a recent Arch Record article about Chicago high-rise history. The print version goes into more depth, but this will get you interested...

Thanks for sharing. Chicago is such a vibrant city to visit. And only about an hour away by plane.

All of the Highrise buildings look nice and I know lots of people in this forum want to see a few more here but really..... Would you want to live in one? I must admit I would not.
Re: Chicago Highrise Boom
I think most people just prefer high-rises as a symbol of the vibrancy of their city, rather than to actually live in one. I would probably rather work in a high-rise than live in one. But at some point in my life I might give it a try. There's nothing to say one solution is all you need to do for your whole life.

Re: Chicago Highrise Boom
I'd actually love to live in one, but I wouldn't be willing to sell my firstborn to afford to live in a 500sq ft unit on the upper floors.

Once I become an empty nester, I could do a high rise but not sure I will because of one thing. I'm not sure I could ever live without a dog. It would be such a pain in a high rise.

I would live in a highrise. A good friend lived in a highrise near the 113 E Roosevelt project on the 27th floor. The view was cool, but going on the balcony made me anxious.

I love Chicago, new skyscrapers that aren't super skinny? Yes!

Re: Chicago Highrise Boom
Another skycraper is in the works, very close to being a supertall at 960 feet. It would be the 9th tallest in the city:

Ground broken on a brownfield mega project along the Chicago River. The Riverline will include 3,600 residences, along with retail, a park, and an extension to the riverwalk, over the next 8-10 years.
