Hotel Room Boom coming in KC

Post by Greg S »

1,170 planned for DT KC and surrounding areas. Does not include an additional 800 for the Hyatt hotel tower near the convention center:

According to the article, there are around 3,450 hotel rooms in downtown KC, while Omaha has nearly 2,700 and that is not counting any of the hotels by the airport. I think for being a much smaller city, Omaha is doing pretty well in comparison.

Is that 2700 counting the hotels currently under construction as well as the ones announced?

Here is the post I made a few weeks ago under the Shamrock Marriott thread: so when the new rooms are added the total should be near 3,300.
Just did a quick check. Here are the rooms located in downtown, not including Council Bluffs, the airport, or anything on the fringe of downtown.

Double Tree: 414
Hilton Omaha: 600
Magnolia: 145
Econolodge: 46
Hotel Deco: 89
Residence Inn: 152
Hyatt Place: 159
Holiday Inn: 109
Fairfield Inn: 113
Homewood Suites: 123
Hilton Garden Inn: 178
Courtyard by Marriott: 181
Embassy Suites: 249
Hampton Inn: 139

Total: 2,697

I could be missing some, but I think I got most of them. The total metro number is around 14,700 as of May 2015.

Not to mention, with the addition of the Marriott (333 rooms), The Yard Hotel (125 rooms) and the 24th and Farnam Hotel (132 rooms), downtown should be adding another 590 rooms in the next 2-3 years. That is an over 20% increase from the current total.

Nice thanks! It is pretty impressive the amount of rooms we have around downtown.

Our airport is in just about the most ideal distance from our downtown that you could hope for. Not so close that it inhibits our skyscrapers (all two of them..... :( ), but certainly still very close compared to other cities. So that helps a lot, hotel wise.

I wonder what KC is counting as DT rooms. They have 1000 alone in their Marriott.

I was thinking the same thing. That Marriott-Muehlebach complex is huge. They just redid the Marriott side a couple years ago, now extensive renovations going on in the Muehlebach side.

I showed my mom the new convention center hotel proposal in Kansas City and all she said was "Ew."
