I'm green with envy. How is it that downtown KC has become so vibrant all of a sudden? The last time I drive through (about 7 years ago) the streets were totally empty. What gives?

This is the Plaza, not downtown.

Yeah, it's the plaza area. That being said, that whole corridor is booming. From Rivermarket to downtown to Crossroads to Crowncenter and finally Westport/Plaza. Such a great urban zone.

Thank you for clarifying, I missed that.

That would be amazing there. This is the direction I would have loved to see North Downtown (am I the only one still calling it that?) taken. something of this caliber would do well in ConAgra's old digs or in the space between DT and Midtown, if we follow our current trend of taking a wrecking ball to our architectural city.

But seriously, this is easily my favorite part of KC.

I somewhat disagree. The reason this will work in KC is because of the Plaza and foot traffic.

In North Downtown it wouldn't work because there is no foot traffic. Between downtown and Midtown, there is also no foot traffic.

Omaha is just a hodge podge of buildings, no grand scale developments. This project needs a grand development (such as The Plaza) to actually work.

On a side note...whoever developed Village Point really blew it. Zona Rosa is what it should have been like. And now they are just adding a bunch of medical facilities around Village Point, so no new pedestrian expansion can occur. It will always be one strip of retail that is not integrated into the city.

Ugh, I hate village point. It's just awful there.

As far as downtown KC, the Power and Light District has been a huge factor in KC's downtown not going dark after 5. They've also got momentum from additional development in the Crossroads/Crown Center area on the southern end of downtown and River Market area on the north side.

The River Market area is one of the coolest little areas. Some great finds at the market there when it is open.

I agree. When I lived in Dallas, there was a Village Pointe like development in a suburb called Grapevine. It was awesome because they had condos and apartments above each building going up to 4 storeys. For the suburbanites it was a hopping place! I really wish something like that could be done at Village Pointe. Even Legacy in Omaha has added residential nearby.

We just so happened to stay last weekend at the Residence In which is located in the same city block. The location is easy walking distance to any part of the Plaza. Most of the land is vacant right now. This is just primo property. I wished I owned a piece of it. LOL
