PGA Champions Tour president Greg McLaughlin called Sioux Falls an ideal city to host one his organization’s tournaments and Jack Nicklaus himself said a tour stop in the city would have an impact “far greater than you realize”.
With those kinds of encouragements moving things along, on Thursday it became official that Sioux Falls is getting a PGA Tour Champions event beginning next year. Minnehaha Country Club will host the Sanford International tournament the week of September 17-23.
It will feature a $1.8 million purse with an agreement to host the event through 2022.

Well the rain let up. They even had a helicopter hovering over the course trying dry it out.
This is the first ever PGA tour event to take place in South Dakota. The event will feature a $1.8 million purse with a first-place prize of $270,000.
Twelve of the top 15 golfers on the PGA Tour Champions money list will be in action this week at the Sanford International tournament at Minnehaha Country Club.
