Officials at the Des Moines airport had been working toward an announcement. U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Ia., got a jump on them Monday when his press office released a statement saying that he is "thrilled that American Airlines will soon begin nonstop service between Iowa's capital and New York City."

Des Moines' newest brew pub will be an invitation-only affair requiring clearance through stiff safety measures — just beyond the security screening area at the Des Moines Airport.
