New Central Des Moines Public Library

Post by Ingersoll1978 »

Here are some photos that I took of our new $32.3 million, 110,000 sq foot Des Moines Central Library. The new library is on the east end of the new Gateway West Park. Please keep in mind that the landscaping ISN'T done! :D It's also very minimalist inside and out. A very cool modern library that doesn't fit the mold of what most of us would think a library would look like. It will also have a "green" roof.

A brook is being installed to run through two blocks of Gateway West Park (and it ends at the Library):

Love the new glass awning for Starbucks' patio (the new umbrellas and tables arrived in boxes today):

Wow, I like all the windows and modern looking inside. That floor was a nice touch. I wish our downtown library would either completely renovate or build a new library. There's something about a moat(sp?) and the concrete walls I don't like.

Having seen it in person it is a long walk across that place. The ceiling seems a bit undone to me, but the floor is cool.

The coolest part by far is that it is going to have a "green" roof. Nice!

I have not liked that bldg since they started it. Just not my style I guess... I don't think it fits into its surroundings very well.
