Dam Brad you either have a lot of extra time on your hands lately.
I think the best part of ISU is you wont see Nancy and Tom's name on it.

Regardless if it's 1 day or 1 month old, we appreciate the information (In reality, the story link provided by Brad from the DM Register about ISU expansion is dated 06/22/06..So the reference is less than 2 weeks old)..

And lets also dispense of the back-handed commentary that could be deemed as 'unfavorable'..Sometimes if you don't have much of anything to say about the topic a forumer has started, it's best to not say anything at all..

:) ..

Sorry if I offended, that was not my intent, just having a little fun with Brad and MTO is all. Last I checked we could still have fun here, can't we? (and yes, Cowboy, the DMR article is dated 6/22, but the story initially ran a couple weeks before that with the intended plans and "unpublically" was released many weeks earlier, if you're an in-the-know-dyed-in-the-wool Cyclone fan  )

And belatedly, thanks for posting that Brad! :D

gotta love the Clones and their inferiority complex. Why expand that dump of a stadium when it's sold out once a year? Guess living here in heck, I mean Central Iowa, $10 ticket promotions for the final 2 ISU home games will become the norm.

Sometimes Information must take a while to swim across the river, I heard nothing of it until it was on Sports radio yesterday.

Looks cool. I really like Ames, the problem is that when its 60 in DesMoins and Omaha, its about 20 in Ames.

Looks like a big improvement. I've always thought it was a nice stadium. I usually go there for the NU game and have been to several big concerts there. If people think it's a dump, I wonder what they think of Memorial stadium in Lincoln???

Hmmm, thanks all the same, but you are sadly misinformed on the sellout status and dump status of Jack Trice Stadium.

And that whistling sound you hear isn't coming from the howling winds at JTS either....

Been there, done that, many times. And the winds out of the north really exaggerate the cold. Hopefully by closing in the south end that will cut down on some of the wind tunnel effect, along with the Jacobson Building in the north end zone.

It's too bad this wasn't done 25 years ago when they first floated the idea, until Jim Criner drove the program into the ground that is.

I apprecaiate that icejammer. Yes we can have fun. A 'wink' emoticon would have been a clear signal that you were indeed having 'a little fun' with your initial post here..

And as Brad stated, us 'west of the mighty mo' dwellers must not have received that info. Especially the 'unpublished' plans. So although I'm not a Cyclone fan, I am glad to hear of the expansion plan for ISU..As belated as we found out about them  ..

I still wish they would have enclosed the north end and built Jacobsen at the south end... Those winds can be a bummer.

AHF, you seem to derive pleasure on ripping on an ISU program that in recent years has made remarkable strides in increases in winning percentage, bowl participation, and attendance. Quite a feat for a program that just recently had one of the worst football traditions/history in NCAA Division I football (prior to Dan McCarney) and moreover competes in a lightly populated state that already has one strong NCAA Div I school in the University of Iowa.

Kind of ironic comments from someone who begins by talking about an "inferiority complex". Hummmmm.

I can't for the life of me figure out why it pains you so to see a struggling program try to improve itself? As you'll recall, you had the discussion on the $10 tickets firmly slapped back at you on the absolutedsm.com forum several months ago only to see you run and hide....well, maybe you just ran to find more less challenging ground here on the Omaha site to spew your anti-cyclone rhetoric.

http://www.absolutedsm.com/forum/viewto ... su+tickets

Seriously, if it is really soooooo difficult for you to live in central Iowa and have to witness a program that is trying to scratch and claw to gain somewhat of a foothold on success, than by all means move!!! It seems to me that there's a lot going on in Omaha, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a job and a nice place to live far...far away from us lowly Cyclone fans.

The condescending ISU comments aside, I always got the impression ankeny liked living in the Des Moines metro.

Me too. Maybe that's why the "...living in heck, I mean Central Iowa..." comment got under my skin and caused me to comment.

....or maybe this poor Cyclone alumnus is just a bit too sensative.

Iowa State football stadium capacity to rank third in the Big 12 after renovation is completed

There is a video of the construction on the page as well.
The Cyclones are in the final stages of a major renovation to the stadium’s south end zone, part of a $60 million expansion of Jack Trice Stadium that is set to be completed in late August.
It’s arguably the most ambitious renovation at the 40-year-old stadium, which will soon be the third-largest in the Big 12 with a capacity of 61,000. Iowa State opens its season Sept. 5, hosting Northern Iowa in front of what should be the biggest crowd in school history.

Big 12 football stadium capacities
Darrell K. Royal Stadium (Texas): 100,119
Memorial Stadium (Oklahoma): 82,112
Jack Trice Stadium (Iowa State): * 61,000
Jones AT&T Stadium (Texas Tech): 60,862
Boone Pickens Stadium (Okla. St.): 60,218
Milan Puskar Stadium (West Virginia): 60,000
Memorial Stadium (Kansas): 56,800
Bill Snyder Family Stadium (K-State): 50,000
McLane Stadium (Baylor): 45,000
Amon G. Carter Stadium (TCU): 45,000
* — projected in 2015

They have a great set up in Ames. I've always thought ISU has some of the best fans. Give them a little success and their support comes out in droves.

Are the seats in the corners that appear redish new too? What's the new capacity?

Yes, the whole south end zone is completely new. The new capacity will make it the 3rd largest in the Big 12 at 61,000. I don't think that would be in the top 7 or 8 in the Big 10.

Here is a picture of how the south end zone used to look. There were some seats below the scoreboard.

Gonna try to make it out to a game this year, I have never been to Jack Trice, is it tough to scalp a ticket outside the stadium?

And then, you have the B1G, with at least 4 or 5 a 90K or more. (2 being well above 100K)

Scalping tickets at jack trice... Just scour the litter on the ground, you'll find all sorts of tickets.

Hopefully the new addition will make the stadium less of a wind tunnel. My goodness, that stadium on a cold November evening...

We typically didn't sell out many games unless Nebraska or Iowa was playing. What I did when I went there was to buy a ticket on the grass hill for like $10 and then hop the wall into the stands. I can't tell if they'll still allow seating on the remaining two hills though.

Either way, tickets should be relatively cheap and plentiful.

ISU is expected to have a record crowd of nearly 62,000 this Saturday, meanwhile,

Iowa expecting smallest Kinnick crowd in 12 years for opener
Barring a late surge, Iowa will play a home football game Saturday before an announced crowd of fewer than 60,000 for the first time in 12 years.

Rick Klatt, the UI’s associate athletic director for external affairs, said that 57,600 tickets had been sold as of Tuesday for Saturday’s 11 a.m. season opener against Illinois State.

It would mark the smallest official attendance at Kinnick Stadium since 54,471 saw Iowa beat Buffalo, 56-7, on Sept. 6, 2003. That was also the last time Iowa dipped below 60,000.
