Next trend is east-side growth as city expands on a pace for 187,000 by 2015
The growth continues a 2.5 percent annual boost Sioux Falls has enjoyed for the past decade.
While too soon to analyze business, housing and other trends that emerged in the past year, authorities say growth's momentum continues from careful planning and key economic events decades ago.
As of Dec. 31, Sioux Falls' estimated population was 148,000, according to the city.
Long-range projections suggest in 2025 about 221,000 people will call Sioux Falls home.
I grew up in SD and am amazed at the growth that SF has seen.  My question is, where are all the people coming from and where will another 70,000 come from?  I like the city for a number of reasons but on the whole its too cold in the winter and too humid in the summer  :)  Oh, and lots of Minnesota bugs!
I'd take the Chevy's mexican restaurant in a second though!
Am curious if anyone knows if the revenues for this year from the retail sector are lower or not this year. Â After the building of the Lakeport commons in Sioux City, many of my female friends have said they no longer feel the need to travel to Sioux Falls for their shopping needs, wondering if this is something that has been noticed. Â Sioux City recently had their best year for retail ever, and the Commons are the reason why. Â Let me know if someone finds something out.
No, Sioux Falls has not experienced a downturn. Â Estimated sales receipts are up 7.5% in 2006. Â The city is forecasting a 7% rise next year. Â It doesn't seem the additions in Sioux City have affected Sioux Falls at all. Â Two new developments (the Galleria at River's Bend and Dawley Farm Village) on Sioux Falls' east side will have almost 2 million square feet for retail, and include many national stores new to the market and second or third locations of existing stores.
Sioux Falls and its "suburbs" had well over half a billion dollars in building permits last year as well. Â There are no indications that the city's growth will slow down.
Hey no problem. Â I just graduated from UNL, and miss Lincoln and Omaha a ton! Â I actually found out about this site in one of my classes and have been watching it ever since. Â i finally had knowledge and so i decided to post.
Interesting. Â Either Siouxland area shoppers aren't that big of a demographic to Sioux Falls or there has been enough growth to support less Siouxland shoppers. Â All I know is that Sioux City is seeing increased sales in the retail sector. Â Maybe people are just buying more? Â Who knows. Â Thanks for the info.

Interesting. What class turned you on to this forum? And you do not need knowledge to post here, just inside info  :;):
I got my master's in Community and Regional Planning. Â I can't remember what class specifically it was though. Â I moved to KC this summer, but I'm from Sioux Falls, so I keep up with things up there - hence my "knowledge". Â I'd love to move back there or the Omaha/Lincoln area at some point.
