Twin Cities now has "Street View" on Google Maps

Post by w8ing »

There were filming in July and August - at least in Mpls.  I was visiting a friend around 8/19/07 and my car is on google maps in the visitor parking! lol

Some highlights:

Hard Rock Cafe/First Avenue

State Capitol Building

IDS tower

I-35 Bridge Must have barely been weeks or days before the collapse.

Farmers Market

Weisman Art Museum

About two months ago I was turning onto Hwy. 31 in Gretna and as I sat waiting for trafic to pass a car went by with the Google logo on the door.  On to of the car there was about a 4/5 foot pole with a dome on top like you would see a security camera in.  YOu could see that in the back of the car there was a lot of electronic gear.  I assumed that this was a vehical that was being used to capture these images.  Who knows if they were working the area or passing through.  Either way it stuck out.  If they had been working the area I ams sure it has been seen by others.  Anyone????

I've always wondered how they did that.

I kind of assumed they used (at least) four video cameras and just drove the streets continuously recording.

They do appear to seamlessly merge the views, you can pan around and not see any obvious stitch marks.

I guess you have a good view of the fireworks on New Year's huh?   I've been to the Nicolette Island Inn before for a fancy 8 course dinner. Good stuff.   I'll be moving a few miles away next month - Loring Park area.
