one day in Portland?
On my way to Seattle I'll be passing through Portland for about a day. For those who have been, I'm looking for a few recommendations? Its hard to see a place in such a short time, but maybe there are a few "must see" destinations. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

What do you like?
McCormick's & Schmidts Seafood and Pilsner Room is a must (0309 SW Montgomery), There is a great Sushi Restaurant (Can't remember the name) just down from Civic Auditorium, Typhoon Thai.
Pioneer Courthouse Square, The Pearl District, The Cultural District, Japanese Gardens, Classical Chinese Garden, Portland Saturday Market (if you are there on a Saturday), Oregon Wines on Broadway. Sorry but all these are on the west side - I never have gone to the east.

A few of my suggestions:
1.Ride the Portland Aerial Tram from SoWa (South Waterfront) to the OHSU (Oregon Health Science University)
http://www.portlandtram.org/
view on the tram looking north to downtown
view from the top (OHSU) to the east looking down at SoWa. On a clear day, you'd be able to see Mt Hood.
2. Multnomah Falls. Located about 30min east of Portland along I-84. If you go, at least go to the bridge between the falls. It's quite a trek to the top but has a great view.

I concur with Greg S - if you are a book lover you have to go to Powell's City of Books on 10th and Burnside. It is a city establishment much like Tattered Cover in Denver's LoDo. And if you like wine you have to get a bottle(s) of Oregon's finest Pinot Gris! I would also have suggested going to REI - but since you are going to Seattle you could visit the original store.
