Louisville

A grassroots effort called 8664 is trying to altar the plans of I-64 and spaghetti junction known as the Ohio River Bridges Project.

The ORBP is a $4.1B project to widen I-64 through Louisville, add another bridge for I-65 across the Ohio River, add another bridge to connect I-265 in KY and IN, and redo spaghetti junction in downtown Louisville.

The 8664 plan is to remove I-64 in and west of downtown to I-265 and replace with a parkway, reduce the size of spaghetti junction, and still connect I-264 across the Ohio River for thru-traffic at a cost of around $2B.

There are also videos/links about other cities that have or are considering tearing down their downtown freeways, including a good one on SF.

Also a link from the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) about 10 freeways without futures.

i don't like it.  If i were in Louisville, i'd be asking for something different.  Freeways are good from a driver's perspective and getting your car from a to b (obviously), but they mess up city planning.  It seems like they've got a good amount of green space right by the river that's being under utilized, too.

Man, all this time I thought the biggest draw to Lousiville was Copple Chevrolet, and before the Economy tanked they were moving out to I80 by Gretna.  Guess I was way off!
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!
