Now, New York has its East Village, which is the eastern part of Greenwich Village. Â Now Kansas City and Des Moines and probably a few other places have their "East Village". Â I know Omaha can't have an East Village unless you want to call Council Bluffs the East Village. Â I just think it's kind of funny. Â What's next? Â The Upper East Side of Sioux City? Â Where is the creativity? Â The originality?
"Hey! Look at us! Â We have an East Village too!"
East Village...everywhere!

I think the districts that have had the most organic growth and are the least gimmicky are Kansas City's River Market, Omaha's Old Market and Lincoln's Haymarket. Â With the proposed arena the Haymarket has, in my opinion, the most potential, although the area between the Qwest Center and Creighton could be huge.
My point with the East Village post was that using the term East Village, again, in my opinion, is gimmicky and less than original. Â At the least calling something a "village" connotes, well, a village, not a neighborhood of a couple of blocks. Â In fairness I haven't been to either Kansas City or Des Moines' East Village recently. Â
I'd still like to be the first to buy one of the proposed condos near Lincoln's Haymarket Arena.

Ughhh. Those names drive me |expletive| crazy. I would much rather East Village or something along those lines. I think a simple "Downtown" would be feasible for little old Omaha. No need to break up a bunch of little tony areas for nothing more than marketing properties.Omababe wrote:Maybe we'll get a SOHO neighborhood.
We already have SOMA and (LOL!) North Downtown.
