HDR part of Denver's latest RTD project/Union Station News

Post by the1wags »

I didn't know if I should post this in the Business, Transit, or Elsewhere Forums. Feel free to move it elsewhere mods.

HDR is one of the partners on Denver's Eagle P3 transit expansion. 3 lines. Downtown to DIA, downtown to Wheat Ridge, and starting Downtown to Longmont. A shade over $2B, scheduled completion in 2016. Here's a link to the press release.

The Denver light rail buildout is impressive.  Kiewit (where I work) has been doing some of the Union Station construction, but none of the current railway work.

If you haven't seen it, the 6th avenue bridge installation is pretty cool.  They built it beside the highway and then rolled it into place over a weekend.

Indeed I have seen that, pretty sweet. They are going gangbusters on that line, the west corridor. The eagle P3 project I highlighted (and the other northern lines) are to be more commuter rail instead of lightrail. Union Station is going to be world class when its done.

Anyone have any pictures/renderings on the station and a map of the line?

Speaking of the west corridor, they have the track laid and have started testing cars. The electric isn't done yet, so they use this thing to pull the cars around. Big step toward the opening next year.

"DENVER, May 23, 2012 – The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will open the West Rail
Line to the public on April 26, 2013, eight months ahead of the originally scheduled opening
date. The West Rail Line is the first FasTracks project to be completed, and part of the current
$4.2 billion investment in the region. Presently, 50 miles of new rail line are in construction or
under contract to begin construction."

"A giant, multimodal transportation hub is quickly emerging from Denver Union Station, thrilling officials and developers who see the rehab of the 132-year-old building as a draw for hotel guests and weary commuters shuttling by bus, rail or cab.
The Union Station renovation project is 70 percent complete, and a tour Tuesday hinted at what the revived building and new transit center will look like when it opens in July 2014."

Wasn't sure where to put this... Pretty interesting that an Omaha-based company is redesigning an iconic New York City bridge.

http://www.omaha.com/article/20130228/M ... 89916/1685
Omaha-based HDR is designing the replacement for New York's Tappan Zee bridge — a signature three-mile crossing over the Hudson River that is to be the widest bridge of that length in the world.

The $3.14 billion contract is huge for HDR and its partners. HDR is lead designer and a subcontractor for Tappan Zee Constructors, the winning bid consortium that also includes Fluor Enterprises, American Bridge Co., Granite Construction Northeast and Traylor Bros.

“The Tappan Zee Hudson River Crossing is an iconic project, and HDR is very proud to be part of the team,” said HDR Chairman and CEO George A. Little.
