Yeah they will be all over the place down there. Hopefully they plan on Midtown/Blackstone after this rollout.

I just returned from NYC, where there are bicycle ride share setups all over the city, in multiple boroughs. And my friends who live there have a monthly membership in the one near their home.
Back home, I recently noticed the one at 11th and Jackson in Omaha. I would consider renting from there, as you could easily and safely ride around the riverfront, and over into Iowa. But conversely I wouldn't even think of riding in New York City. The sidewalks are wall to wall pedestrians, and the streets are crazy thick with all manner of pedestrians, taxis, limos and delivery trucks.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but there is now a B Cycle Station on the west side of the Durham by the 10th Street Bridge.

I ride by the B-Cycle location near the Ameristar parking garage often and noticed they only have 1 bike there. I wonder if it's just due to the fact that it is new or do they not expect much usage here?

Does it have several spots, but only one bike? Like they could easily move a couple bikes there if the demand is there?

There are several spots there. At the time there was only one bike. I'm heading down that way again this weekend, I'll see if anything has changed. I wouldn't guess there would be much demand in the winter, but I could possibly see some use during the warmer months. It is along the trail system so you could ride into downtown from this location, I'm just not sure how many people would ride a B-Cycle bike to the casino.

No, they changed their name to "Heartland".

But they did put these bikes out today.

Omaha's bike sharing Heartland B-Cycle system says it saw 246 users over the past weekend.

Program director Ben Turner says the program has never seen that level of use before. And if you include Friday, the system provided 308 trips across the metro on a weekend that included the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
There are now 31 stations with 152 bikes.

i see two problems with this bike rental system...1) helmets. If i want to rent a bike impulsively, many times will not have a helmet handy. Would you rent a car without a seat belt? 2) availability of open stalls at checkin. What if I ride my bike to a specific station only to find no stalls available. It's a pain in the butt and a time-suck to have to find another station, only to have to walk back to the same location. Granted, some locations are close, but others are not.

In the cities I've been to with bike rental systems with good coverage they attempt to solve the bunching up problem by having workers with trucks transport bikes between stations based on demand. In Santiago at the end of the work day they had ~20 bikes ready to be added to the racks by some metro stations to fill the demand for commuters getting off of the train.

In Denver, they operate this way as well.

They also give you 15 free mins to find a new station. Obviously it is an inconvenience, but thats just they way it goes sometimes. I am not sure I have ever seen a stall completely full anyways.

https://heartland.bcycle.com/buzz
Heartland B-cycle experienced record ridership during the 2015 College World Series, continuing a trend of record ridership during the CWS. From June 12th through June 24th, 1459 trips were taken by B-cycles throughout the Metro area for an average of 112 trips per day. That is more trips than were taken in all of 2011 or 2012. More trips were taken in the 13 day period than any month in the program's history except for May of 2015. With this increased ridership Heartland B-cycle set new records for:

Best day ever: 189 trips on Saturday 6/13

Best weekday ever: 141 trips on Wednesday 6/17

Best weekend ever: 345 trips taken Saturday 6/12 – Sunday 6/13

Best three day period: 415 trips taken Friday 6/19 through Sunday 6/21

Most days in a row over 100 trips: 5 days from 6/19 through 6/23.

Nice to see the program possibly expand to Bellevue:

Bellevue considers adding bike rental station; would be first B-cycle in Sarpy County
The leading candidate for the station is the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and Bellevue Conference Center complex currently arising near 36th Street and Raynor Parkway, just north of the Twin Creek shopping center.

B-Cycle program gets fedeal grant that will help double its size. Federal grant possible only if program is owned by government entity. Guess what city owns the B-Cycle program now?

The news story I saw the other day made it sound like the city owned the equipment, not the company.

I think you are correct on that. I should have said "equipment" instead of "program." Either way I think it's good for Omaha and encourages a more healthy lifestyle.

Omaha's public bike-sharing system is set to nearly double in size by 2019
Heartland B-cycle has partnered with the City of Omaha to nearly double the size of the public bike-sharing system by 2019.
B-cycle will add 36 stations and 150 bikes. Organizers hope to have the first round of new equipment, which includes 20 bikes, installed in Omaha next year
New stations will be placed near existing bus stops and the planned Bus Rapid Transit route east of 72nd Street. Officials are looking at areas along Farnam Street and western parts of downtown, as well as stops in north and South Omaha. They focus on placing stations in well-populated areas.
Federal and state grants provided $1.2 million for the project.

Heartland B Cycle program moves forward with major expansion in 2018, partners with local universities
A big expansion is moving forward at Heartland B-Cycle. The Omaha bike sharing program will install 38 new stations in 2018, more than doubling the number of docks in the metro.

Ben Turner, Executive Director of Heartland Bike Share, which runs programs in Omaha and Lincoln, said Heartland B-Cycle logged nearly 20,000 rides in 2017. Tuner said the organization saw a more than 16 percent increase in trips from 2016 to 2017.

Metro Community College will see installation of its first two B-Cycle stations. They will be placed at the Fort Omaha campus this year.

"So we can get students from the north Omaha transit center to class, and then from class , you know, up to some place if they want to head up 30th street for lunch," Sarah Murray, Coordinator of Sustainable Practices for MCC said.

In Midtown, the University of Nebraska Medical Center will soon be home to four B-Cycle docks, the first for that campus as well.

That will be very useful. I can't tell you how many times I missed the 30 leaving the fort campus and had to run as fast as I could to the north Omaha transit center to catch the 18. Back then it was that or waste 30 minutes. These bikes would have made those times less stressful.

This is really a fantastic and well thought out expansion that connects midtown and downtown in a way that only cars or private bikes did before.

I especially love the Vinton St and Highlander connections, Vinton St appears ready for a Benson style renaissance kicked off by the art community. Highlander is such a promising investment in a neglected part of the urban core. These connections add another mode for reaching them.

What are the blue dashed lines representative of - new trail proposals? future bike lanes? I haven't seen these ideas before and I've been hoping for more aggressive expansion of our current system.

More people are biking and busing around Omaha
Local ridership on bikes and buses broke records in February.

Heartland Bikeshare's executive director says bikers rode 2,000 trips last month, which Benny Foltz has never seen before.
