Fremont Dinner Train Shutting Down

Fremont Dinner Train Shutting Down

What has been rumored for some time now appreas to finally becoming reality.  Aparently the Fremont Dinner Train is closing down and Moving to Baldwin City, KS.

What a shame.  I blame it squarely on the Railroad's management.  From an ousiders view, the railroad had was poorly run and now the last piece of the old Cowboy Line will most likely go in to the history books.

Its amazing that Boone can do with their railroad...

too bad our local railroad couldn't do the same...

That is sad, I was hoping to maybe go ride it this fall.  Any date for when they are going to stop operating in Fremont?

A dinner train is niche experience and especially a dinner train in Fremont.  It is something most people would do once or twice and then forget about it.  Add to that you have the railroad associated costs with track and equipment maintenance that a restaurant does not have, and it is hard for me to blame management on this one.

To be clear, the Dinner Train is a seperate company.  I don't blame them for leaving, the have business to run.  I blame the actuall railroad that runs the FEVR.  I think they have missed lots and lots of oportunities over the years and all they do is blame everyone but themselves...

I went with a group to the dinner train sometime last spring. While the idea of it is pretty interesting, it was just very boring. I guess I had made the assumption that the train would move faster than 2.5 miles an hour, and that it would at least go on a loop (not forward, then backward). Also, the food was very average and our waitress was really mean.

That track is Horriable... if you went faster than 2.5 MPH, The car you were riding in would be on the ground!

Here is what you were riding on....

The FRA allows trains to operate on that kind of track?

But with all the bends in it, you would think it would cause problems. Especially that dip on the left track toward the center of the picture. I'm surprised it can move along that track at all.

Wow! To me it looked like it was about to fall off the track. It probably would have if it had been going faster.
