Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
Twitter is all over massive traffic jams all over the metro. There was an accident on I-80 which turned it into a parking lot which then spilled a ton of excess traffic onto the other streets. Looks awful out there.

Omaha is getting larger, so I think big traffic jams like this will happen more and more as time goes on.iamjacobm wrote:Twitter is all over massive traffic jams all over the metro. Crotch Rocket running from OPD at 140 MPH decided to test a curb... Curb won.

I'll root for the curb every time.Coyote wrote:Crotch Rocket running from OPD at 140 MPH decided to test a curb... Curb won.

There was also an accident at westbound I-80 at about 72nd street. Looked like 3 semis assended each other, one may have caught fire. That was between 4 and 5 pm

I'm astonished what closing one lane (until October) of West Dodge Expressway has done for evening traffic.

Wow, that looks terrible. I was going south on 480 a little after 5 today and you could tell it was stopped. I wonder how the backup on I-80 was into Iowa.
Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
Another Problem was that everyone was jumping off and heading to Center St. Center is one lane at 84th street and was backed up to Aksarben Village, where there is another lane closed and that backed up past 60th...

Wow, thats crazy. I hate having to drive on Hwy 75 everyday because it always backs up in the morning but only 2-3 lanes wide not 6 or 8.

Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
I know other cities have worse rush hour traffic....but driving on interstate 80 during pm rush hour sucks. Nearly every day there is an accident, and whether or not it is in your lane, traffic slows or stops. Tonight there was a cop that pulled someone over and traffic started to back up for about a mile because of gawkers. I just wish there was an alternative, seriously.

Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
Are you sure they pulled them over or were just checking on a stalled car? Unless an emergency a cop should never be pulling somebody over on the interstate during rush hour.thenewguy wrote:I know other cities have worse rush hour traffic....but driving on interstate 80 during pm rush hour sucks. I went out to village point on Dodge at about 9 am yesterday (Friday ) and left about 3:45 ---- nobody was working in the construction area unless they were underneath the bridge.

Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
I was able to get pass the jam this morning, but a semi was turned over on the I-80 EB off ramp for 84th St. and then the lights at the 72nd St off ramp lane were blinking red. I hear it was nasty a few minutes later
Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
It was terrible took us an hour to get from downtown to West Maple, even cut over to Q which was also backed up.
One word Omaha; urban circulator.

The radio scanner said West Bound was way backed up - but it was an East Bound accident?MTO wrote:It was terrible took us an hour to get from downtown to West Maple, even cut over to Q which was also backed up.
Re: Epic Traffic Jam of 2015
There was an accident in the middle lanes of westbound I-80 around 72nd. They were just hauling the car away when I passed around 8:30. I remember getting to I-80 west from 480 and thinking holy |expletive|! It was a seven lane parking lot.Coyote wrote:The radio scanner said West Bound was way backed up - but it was an East Bound accident?MTO wrote:It was terrible took us an hour to get from downtown to West Maple, even cut over to Q which was also backed up.

If you are coming out of downtown, you can always take N 75 to Sorensen Parkway ( or I-680) to get out west. Might be a bit longer but less stop and go
