DALLAS (AP) - Southwest Airlines Inc. escalated a fare war against American Airlines on Wednesday, announcing it would sell one-way tickets to and from Dallas for as low as $39.
Southwest Chief Executive Gary C. Kelly said Southwest was treating its longtime home at Dallas Love Field as if it were just launching service there.
American Airlines will still have the upper hand when it comes to Omaha-Dallas traffic, especially considering nonstop OMA-DFW flights are about the same as Southwest's OMA-STL-DAL route. The $39 fare only really affects the cities that are directly connected to Dallas; not to mention there are more than five daily AA flights, compared to three with Southwest.
Which is really sad, because Southwest could be so much more from Omaha but chooses not to be. (Like services to Los Angeles, Orlando, and so on.)

During certain weeks in October, Early December, January and early February, tickets can be purchased for as little as $25.  The deals are distance based, with the shortest routes costing $25 while the longest goes for $100.  For instance, an 'Action 3 News' check of during the applicable dates shows fares to Minneapolis are $25 one-way while flying the Chicago Midway is $50 and Las Vegas is $100. Â
