Greyhound in Omaha

Post by Coyote »

I just saw a commercial on KETV about the "New Greyhound" boasting new buses and new terminals. Has anyone heard if Omaha will be in line for a new terminal? At a new location?

Hopefully the one on 16th will be a distant memory in a year or two.  Not that I'm opposed to a downtown bus terminal, but I think that land could be much better used as a parking lot for the jail or another QT.

End of the line for Greyhound's Omaha service

After Aug. 15, the bus line will no longer have runs to and from the area.

Burlington Trailways, a Midwestern bus line based in West Burlington, Iowa, will take over Greyhound's abandoned routes the next day. Burlington takes passengers to 42 Midwestern cities, including Indianapolis, Denver and Chicago.

I wonder where the new service will pick up and drop off from?  It's kind of surprising that they're pulling out of such a large city

I did take Greyhound once from Omaha. It was quite an experience; they guy next to me explained how the cops had bought him a ticket to get him out of the city and how it was a big conspiracy because he saw something he wasn't supposed to.  He then proceeded to tell me how his career by training was as a professional clown.  You just don't get those experiences flying!

There is nothing quite like getting onto a transcontinental bus at night.

LOL, trust me, I've met many professional clowns while flying over the years. :)

But, were they being sent out of town by the police?

Way to crush the expansion momentum started by jLofts, Kimball and the Shamrock project, among others.  Nice fit in the master plan, as well.

Not that you care to see a parking lot in your back yard, but I'm guessing the absense of this greyhound station could only improve the neighborhood. That place was rough...

Meh. That station was/is no more or less crappy or a magnet for trouble than the jail it is next to or any of the parking lots/garages around it. Yes, it is bad use of space but not a "negative", per se. The BS magnets are the local bus stations on 16th, etc. heck, Denim & Diamonds was a bigger BS magnet than any of them.

This just went from all-potential to no-potential, assuming this goes through.

Speaking of Denim and Diamonds, I heard it's under new management and being converted into a Spanish-esque restaurant/bar/dance club.

End of digression.

County Confirms Offer on Bus Station
WOWT wrote:Fact Finders first reported that Omaha businessman Pat Venditte thought he had bought the bus station but lost out to the county in a second round of bidding.
I have to wonder what Mr. Venditte wanted to do.

Oh, never mind then. Is that all this property could inspire? Too close to the jail for comfort?
