Grassroots Festival 2015

Post by iamjacobm »

Three day festival on he riverfront in Iowa. One day has been announced and it is headlined by Kid Cudi. Would of been a bigger get 3 years ago but still great to see a festival bein in a big non indie or country act.

Personally I love it. For Hip Hop in Omaha this is a pretty decent get. Interested to see who they bring in the other two days.

Honestly didn't know this was a thing, just thought it was another one and done 311 concert last year and passed on it, you can only hear Omaha Stylee in person so many times.

Between this, the Decemberists in Papio, Stir, and MAHA could be a great outdoor concert season.

Looks like Mac Miller will be there too, he's (kind of) a bigger name.

Thanks for the kind words guys. New to the board, trying to spread the word about our festival. There's still one act TBA for Friday, but we feel the hip-hop /indie lineup is very strong with a star like Kid Cudi headlining. We wanted someone who transcends several demographics, and Kid Cudi certainly does that.

One of the more underrated Day 1 performers is Raury. I recommend any real music heads to give him a listen. He's up for new-comer of the year on several publicans, and is very talented.

Just wondering.. if they are to begin grading the land for the upcoming construction.... will there still be enough parking or with hey still be allowed to park on that land?

I would park in Omaha and take the ped bridge. Parking on the Iowa side is a disaster, construction or not.

You can always park at Harrah's and walk over. But you didn't hear me say that... :D

Tonight I saw a billboard on EB I-80 featuring Lynard Skynyrd, CCR and someone else.
And just the other day Lynard Skynyrd lost another member.

It was an Old Member of Lynard Skynard who was not on the current tour

Schoolboy Q is a great get. Kind of the oddest three day festival with day two in there, but very glad for the hip hop this is brining in.

I bet Lynyard Skynyard never imagined they would be billed behind someone called "DJ Snake" at the same festival.

Fetty wasn't there, took over an hour to get through the gate, ran out of beer, ATM line was over 30 mins long. Basically everything to expect from a wildly inexperienced festival organizer. Very glad I passed, my roommates were upset.

3 people working the gate for 25K is not remotely close to enough. 30 should have been working there, maybe the couple hundred that got in when the fence was pushed over would have been checked then :? .

3 ATMs for 25K is not enough either.

Rumors flying that Fetty Wap was never actually booked and was used to sell tickets? People that got VIP tickets for $100 more than GA never got the meet and greets that came with the increased price b/c the organizers never put it in the performers contracts. On top of that they just let GA people in the VIP area anyways.

Cluster |expletive|.

DJ Snake does not have Grassroots on his website for upcoming dates either. Wouldn't be shocked if that was another no show.

So much more fun. Schoolboy Q not performing, POD is backstage and not playing b/c they haven't been paid apparently Zebrahead showed up at their hotel and it hadn't been paid for. What a disaster.

Voodoo Taco tweeted that most of the vendors got screwed too.
@HitThatDive1
Hey, way to go #Grassroots Music Festival. You're now the new #CreativeCreations of #Omaha! Well done.

@TacoVoodoo
@HitThatDive1 Wish I had enough characters to tweet how they ripped off local vendors as well.

@HitThatDive1
@TacoVoodoo Really? Man, that sucks to hear. So basically they screwed all involved?

‏@TacoVoodoo
@HitThatDive1 Yep.

@HitThatDive1
@TacoVoodoo see...and it's this kind of garbage that makes it hard for people looking to put on good events to get people to be involved.

@TacoVoodoo
@HitThatDive1 Agreed. Even a little communication from those tools would have been nice.

@HitThatDive1
@TacoVoodoo hope you guys didn't lose too much...

‏@TacoVoodoo 1h1 hour ago
@HitThatDive1 hmmm vendor fee, multiple caterings we turned down, ordered product etc...we will be fine but we weren't the only one.

The headline from last night tweeted about how poorly run the festival was. Sorry Grassroots but having two headliners bail and a third call you out on social media means you did bad. They contine to blame others for this mess though.

I just hope this doesn't taint the image of the Omaha Music Festivals. All we need is for bands bypassing Omaha because of lousy promoters.

I strongly agree. The good thing is that the attendance numbers are there, just need to get a company that knows how to run them. I mentioned this festival on the Des Moines forum and this was their response:
WOW! Wish I would've known about this sooner, there's some great acts coming to this! Who sponsors this to get such big name acts on board, the Iowa West Foundation or one of the casinos?

This really puts the 80/35 festival to shame.
and
Omaha hits way above its weight when it comes to the music scene. That is definitely one area where DSM gets destroyed.
and
I'm actually in Omaha and just walked over the bridge earlier. It really is a perfect locale for a concert.

And that's just it. The crowds were obviously there. I think it shows that we can support a big time festival with big curret acts. The way it was ran was a joke though. Word gets to promoters about stuff like that. Going to be hard to get the kind of acts they want.

Chicago Dog saying that their agreement to be there was cancelled 4 days prior to the event. So basically they had probably been turning down other opportunities and then got stuck with probably a bunch of food with no where to sell it.

I haven't met him, but I saw him on the news and I thought it was just a kid there to enjoy the show.
