Aksarben Cinema will upgrade all 1,700 seats in $1 million project

Great news. I feel like AkSarBen cinema was losing out to the other theaters in Omaha of late because of the seating.

Yeah I would not go there because the seats are so much better at the Majestic.

Here's the weird thing though. It said in the article that only 1/3 of the seats will be recliners.....

Yeah, they said all recliners would have messed up sight lines. But they're also moving toward assigned seating so if you want the recliners you're going to be able to reserve them.

Yeah, they said all recliners would have messed up sight lines. But they're also moving toward assigned seating so if you want the recliners you're going to be able to reserve them.

Recliners are OK. Reserved seating is why we changed from Aksarben to Alamo Drafthouse. That and the insistance on quiet at the Drafthouse.

Talked to the Barstows tonight at the UNO hockey game. Bill told me that once you sit in one of the "other chairs", you won't want the recliner anymore. He said the other chair is very comfy!

ESTABLISHED IN 2005, the Omaha Film Festival (OFF) began as a way for the Omaha community to experience the artistry of independent filmmaking through the exhibition of new films by aspiring artists that are otherwise unavailable for viewing in the area. The Festival showcases over 100 films during its annual event, selected from an average of close to 1000 annual entries that come in from around the world, offering a wide variety of independent cinema choices that includes regional and world premier films as well as advanced screenings of films that have already attracted wider distribution. Narrative features, documentaries, short films, and animated shorts are screened during the week-long Festival, with a special section for Nebraska-made films as well. The selected filmmakers are invited to attend the festival and are given the opportunity to discuss their films with the audience after each screening.

The idea behind the film is that one gift can change the world. It shares the story of an incredible family, who through smart investments built a massive fortune. A fortune that they would use to try to make the world a better place than they found it.

Grab your popcorn because this one is going to be good. Six days, 98 films and hundreds of people will be here at the Aksarben Cinema for the 19th annual Omaha Film Festival. And were getting an inside look at what you can expect. from Feb. 27 to March 3 the Aksarben Cinema comes alive with filmmakers, directors, writers, actors and more. Festival Executive Director Marc Longbrake says the event goes beyond just seeing a movie on the big screen. "And then the film will go up on the screen, the credits’ role, and the filmmaker gets up and you can have a Q&A with that person. So, the opportunity to interact with a person that just made the piece of art that you're looking at I think it's incredible."

Omaha Film Festival prepares for 19th year



Tuesday marks the kickoff of the 19th annual Omaha Film Festival. 98 films are being showcased this year, ranging from short films to documentaries to feature films from around the world. Included in this year’s lineup is a short film that’s been nominated for an Oscar: “Red White and Blue,” starring Brittany Snow. Filmmakers from most of the movies will be on site at their premiere, making it a more immersive experience for audience members. “If the filmmaker is in attendance, they’ll get up for a Q&A afterwards and you have a real opportunity to interact with that filmmaker directly after the film they just saw, and then that film maker is going to be here for the week. So you’ll see them in the hallway and you’ll see them at their after parties,” says Executive Director of the festival, Marc Longbrake.

The festival also hosts a screenplay competition, where live actors will perform the scripts and their writers will see it performed for the first time. According to Longbrake, Moviemaker Magazine named the Omaha Film Festival as one of the 50 coolest film festivals. The festival runs from February 27 through March 3. Ticket information can be found at their website. Individual tickets cost $10 each, or you can purchase an all-films pass for $65.
