Homemade dishes mark 29th annual La Festa Italiana
Kevin Cole: World-Herald staff writer wrote:"Next year, if we’re ready, we will be at our permanent home at 132nd and Fort,” said Dr. Ted Bolamperti, one of the festival’s founders. “We will have a 14,000-square-foot banquet facility on eight acres of grounds. It will be beautiful.”

La Festa Italiana, sponsored by the American Italian Heritage Society, was first held at Peony Park. About 8,000 dinners are served every year over Labor Day weekend.

So I am not sure what's going to happen to the La Festa. Usually everyting would be set up by last night. However due to all the rain, they only had 3 booths set up so far. Not sure how they will get the trailer back there with the stage on it. It will be up to its axles in mud in no time!

If you are trying to decide which day to come, I would not recomend tonight. The rain has caused a huge mess. Huge crowd and nowhere to go.

I was told at one point tonight there was a 45 min long wait for the shuttle.

I only showed up to shoot the fireworks:

I took the kids and had a great time. They could improve the children's activites a bit. Something to keep them busy until the entertainment begins. We got there at 4:30 so parking was not an issue. I thought they dealt with the mud as well as they could on such short notice. There were definitely some growing pains in it's first year at the new building, but overall I was impressed.

I wonder why they aren't operating the festival on Labor Day?
