New "lounge & nightclub" in former Goofy Foot location...

Brent Crampton wrote:So, what is HOUSE OF LOOM?

To break it down, two parts of house of loom will be a lounge & nightclub concept with an emphasis on DJ-led events & occasional bands. In tandem with that, one part will be dedicated to visual & performing art and one part will be in creating something similar to what you might call a community center, but redefining that term with an edgy and progressive format.

We initially plan to be open 5-days a week, meaning we'll have plenty of flexibility for the evolution of house of loom. We're also looking for highly creative, driven & knowledgeable bar tenders. In addition to what you'd expect to come with a full bar, we'll offer a tailored selection of beers, craft cocktails, wines, whiskeys and even absinthe. We'll host regular tastings to highlight our more unique beverages and, hopefully, to celebrate the soulful and romantic side of a good drink.

House of Loom wrote:We have some big news: New Years Eve 2016 will be House of Loom's last day of business.

While this is emotional for us, the good news is that we’re closing because we want to (rather than being forced to), and we’re SO thankful that our time at 1012 S. 10 St. has been a success. Having a small business (and especially a nightclub) last beyond five years is an extraordinary feat. We took a concept that started as a humble monthly party and turned it into a sustainable business.

We provided a space that encouraged and celebrated diversity, supported and promoted progressive causes, pioneered and shared safe space business practices in Omaha, as well as programmed hundreds of events with great DJs, promoters & artists that gave thousands of people a creative, social and dance-filled outlet. Within these bricks, social activists have spoken, politicians have stumped, civil rights have been demonstrated, couples have formed, proposals have been made, and weddings have been held.

We were also among the first establishments in Omaha to pioneer craft cocktails; watching our staff push boundaries with great drinks in a high volume nightclub. We’ve worked alongside some of the best in our city’s industry and our current team has taken House of Loom from strength to strength. And because no good deed goes unpunished, we've been able to secure comparable jobs for each one, so they won’t miss a beat.

We signed a five-year lease when we opened, and now that we’ve come to the end of that, we feel it’s time to move into a new chapter over extending the current one. We’ve always called House of Loom a social experiment, and we believe we’ve accomplished everything we wanted to in that space. Nightclubs are a finite business model, so we decided it’d best (and more fun) to go out with a bang.

While House of Loom is closing, it’s not an end, but rather the start of something new. From 2006-2011, House of Loom existed as “loom,” a pop-up dance event. So once again we’ll be going mobile in unique spaces (we’re still on the hunt for), with event content & intention coming from our hearts, and at a frequency of our choosing.

Having said that, this week now marks the beginning of the end of House of Loom. We’ll be announcing the whole line-up of events over the next few weeks, but it starts with House of Loom's 5-Year Anniversary! this Saturday, and ends with an epic New Years Eve party.

We have been incredibly humbled by the support of our beloved community, friends, family members, and the entire team over the years. We can’t wait to share some incredible moments with you all before Jan. 1st!

So sad :(

I really hope they find a new home. The electronic dance community in Omaha now has only one club dedicated solely to dance music (Club 415), and we also lost an establishment that catered to groups in Omaha who don't have a place of their own--various ethnic groups, gays, feminists, etc. House of Loom also tried to educate our less than international city about cultures from around the world. They had Brazilian themed parties, Balkans themed parties, Jamaica, India, and many more. This multicultural interaction and education is in my opinion critical to preventing Omaha from becoming an ignorant, insular, isolated, unwelcome place for travelers, students, and residents from around the world.

Sad news. I hope that something similar to HoL will open in their place.
