Food Trucks

Post by ThatGuy »

These have been mentioned in other threads, but I think we need one all to itself. Anybody have a favorite?

Street Food

New gourmet street food
Omaha World-Herald wrote:The Bomb Digs Food Truck will be parked at the corner of 72nd and Dodge Streets in the old Border's parking lot.
"We're striving to serve a new world cuisine," he said. "I take stuff that I like to eat and try to make it appealing to most people while still keeping a gourmet flair."

Hmmm will have to try that, I'm sure it will never replace my taco truck love but it may be good.

Someone has to tell Bomb Digs to post more frequently on Facebook.  Good luck finding the truck.

He does update his Twitter like a fiend, but the Facebook leaves a bit to be desired.

They have been lately but still wont last long. I give them till the end of summer, if they are lucky.

Are they open today? No. he says they are getting ready for the week ahead.

Are they open in the evening so people can pick something up on their way home from work? No.

Do they have consistent hours? No.

Is the food good? Not really.

It takes all of 3 minutes to tie your Facebook page to your Twitter account so anything you post on Facebook is simultaneously posted on Twitter.

Localmotive is downtown tonight.  12th and Jackson from 11PM on!!!!  They sell what they call "rounders" which are essentially stuffed fried sandwiches in a sourdough bun.  And they are fantastic!  What a tremendous addition to the Old Market.

They claim they will be at the same location in front of Ted and Wally's 7 nights a week!!!!!  They mentioned they will be more mobile during lunch hours.  With Lot 2 and J Coco, this has been a very exciting month in Omaha dining.

The rounders and fries are both pretty good and you can count on them being at their location when they promise. The owners are super nice guys too.

Is the only place I can keep track of who's who.
The S. 24th places seem hit and miss with some trucks non English speaking. Taqueria at Avanza appears stable as does Localmotive.

There is an Omaha food truck association:

Probably be a bunch more of these.  I stopped at the one a couple weeks ago at the Matress Factory and it was still long before they were to be done.  Most of the trucks were sold out so we ate inside.  IF they are selling out they will do more.
For the record  NEBUGEATER does not equal BUGEATER    !!!!!!!

El Rey taco truck @ Saddle Creek & Cuming is great! Plus, you can your order ahead of time and bypass any line that might be there. Carne Asada burrito with a Mexican Coke is a great meal!

Hopefully better than the last one.  My friend went and said it was so busy and the wait was so long that it was not worth it.

The one at the Mattress Factory?  I heard several of them ran out of food there.  We went to another one at Luckey Bucket which wasn't as busy, but the weather sucked.

I heard a couple closed, but I wonder how many shut it down for winter?  It doesn't look like Locomotive is doing lunch much any more either.

http://www.omaha.com/article/20121029/N ... town-spots
Jim Partington, director of the Nebraska Restaurant Association, said his members don't want to prevent food trucks from finding their niche. But the trucks have two big advantages over restaurants — low overhead and mobility at the turn of an ignition key. If trucks were to put an established restaurant out of business, the larger community would take a hit in the way of losses in jobs and tax revenue.

Besides the Food Trucks and Pepperjax, how many old market restaurants are serving quick/good food late night?  I somewhat understand not wanting the trucks rolling up during dinner hours, but late night its a totally different game.

Also, how many people decide "Should we go eat at a nice sit down restaurant or stand on the street corner and eat out of a brown paper bag"?
