Serious question: I need a rec for a low carb craft beer. Michelob Ultra has 2.9 GM of carbs. This gets pretty watery. I could go up to 5-6 GM (Bud Light, Miller Lite range) and be cool with the carb limits.

Any microbeers from local brewers that would get down in this range?

I wonder if Scriptown gets down closer to that. They brew session beers that have lower alcohol content so might be lower carb.

I do not know how many beers actually have carbohydrate contents listed, but you can find estimated calories at RateBeer.com

Their English Ale was very weak and flat, their Pilsner was average at best, but their Stout has a nice body and complex roasted malts and their DIPA was nice and hoppy on the first try, but then seemed to just get all mingled with too many hops where it really didn't make sense... "We use Columbus, Centennial, Cascade, Warrior & a touch of Simcoe hops for all you "hop" lovers." yes I love hops, but only when they compliment each other. I will go back someday to try their Imperial Stout aged in their wine barrels though...

And a Lincoln homebrewer was named a Longshot winner, and his beer will be part of the next Sam Adams Longshot six pack.

Apparently he will also be a part of a new brewery in Lincoln.

Thomssen was a winner in Samuel Adams’ Longshot Competition for his raspberry berliner weisse last week at the Great American Beer Festival. He and two other homebrewers will have their beer featured in a Longshot Variety Pack, to be released nationwide in the spring.

Not Nebraska brewed, but Odell is brewing a signature beer for the Flagship Group restaurants. It is a blood orange saison.

As discussed in the thread about that building, it appears that Benson Brewery is now planning their deli/brewpub to go in the proposed year round farmers market at 10th and pacific.

Not that I know of. If you stick to lower alcohol beers, those will typically be lower in carbs because of lower starting gravity (sugar content).

First Street Brewing Company - Hastings

http://www.nbcneb.com/home/headlines/Pl ... C_Nebraska

Right now Hoeft brews five beers regularly and then has several seasonal brews. He will continue to grow his quantity in the new First Street Brewing Company which will also create 10-12 new jobs in the first two years alone.

Along with selling the beer locally, it will be made with local ingredients as Hoeft said he has several friends who grow hops and wheat here in Nebraska.

He said opening up the brewery in downtown Hastings is expected to help grow the area quite a bit..

I took my parents to Plank of Friday and ordered an Infusion Vanilla Bean that they said was seasonal and were out of. I then turned to the Odell Saison that I only got half a glass of. The bartender said it was exclusive to Flagship in Nebraska and I got the last drops of it. I was really disappointed that they left me with only one craft brew option on tap.

I was just about to say the same thing. If someone there thinks that it is one of Infusion's seasonals, that does not bode well for their management or wait reputation...

My only thought is maybe the Vanilla Bean was seasonal for Plank. I was more surprised that their "signature" beer, the Saison, was gone from all of their locations after only a few months. That is not what I consider a signature beer.

Nebraska bill would establish a state craft brewery board

Nebraska State Sen. Tyson Larson introduced Legislative Bill 1105 that would propose to establish a craft brewery board and, maybe more importantly, allow breweries to maintain certain retail operations (tap rooms) beyond the current 20,000-bbl threshold. At the moment, if you a growing, successful brewery and ready to zoom past that mark, you have to shut that retail function down.

HASTINGS ENTREPRENEUR’S FASCINATION FOR BREWING LEADS TO LAUNCHING A LOCAL MICRO-BREWERY

First Street Brewing is tentatively set to open this July by owner Nathan Hoeft. Hoeft has been in the business of brewing for around a decade. He is mostly self-taught, though he has had opportunities to talk with and learn from professional brewers such as Trevor Schaben from Thunderhead Brewing Co. in Kearney, Marcus Powers and Tom Wilmoth from Zipline Brewing Co. in Lincoln and Mike Klimek and Caleb Pollard from Scratchtown Brewing Co. in Ord.

First Street Brewing Co. will include a tap room where they will test out different beers with the community. Hoeft and his business has plenty of room to grow. “We’re starting out with a 15 barrel brew house, [so] each time you brew [you produce] about 465 gallons of beer,” said Hoeft. “It seems like a lot, but it goes very quickly if you’re doing it right.”
