King Kong (156th and West Center)

Post by jessep28 »

There are remodel and other permits with a project description of a King Kong at the Southwest corner of 156th and Center. The closed gas station and the strip mall on that property are all one address and parcel, so I don't know which building it's going in.

Almost guarantee that it is the former gas station. There are still businesses in the strip mall. The old gas station has been undergoing a major overhaul and when they started the demo the tanks came out do the ground for good

Yeah, it's definitely the old Cubby's. I don't remember why I was so unsure about that corner a few months ago.

If you don't count the one in Lincoln, yes.

But technically the one on 72nd Street is west of 72nd Street.

Technically, but I was thinking East O vs West O.

After 2 1/2 years it looks like this location is done. Anyone have any insight as to what is going to be here. I caught a note in their add on the Thanksgiving day OWH that stated this location is "moving" on 11/28 and the location and plaza has been sold to another restaurant.

Any idea what is going here? Is KK moving or closing?

Don't recall seeing mention of it on here any where so thought I would ask.

Here is a snip of the ad that it was mentioned in.

Hopefully whatever moves in will build something that looks less like the offices of an auto salvage yard.

I was in there for lunch a week or so back and I asked the lady behind the counter what was going to replace King Kong and she said "Eeets going ta be a peeza place." What pizza place I asked and she said "Me don't know. Me know only it be a pezza place.""

He referenced moving to a bigger bay on 1620. I thought it he was just expanding through a wall, but it looks like it will be here.

If anybody ever figures out how these King Kong people run their business, let me know. This has to be the most confusing local burger/gyro chain ever.

I honestly never eat at the place. The last (and only) time I remember is the early 90's at their 40th and Dodge location...

I only eat there every few years. I don't like paying a premium for poor customer service.

I like them. The steak deal on Sundays and Wednesdays is great. Also really like their burgers.

Anyone know if they are opening a replacement out west? I'd love to see them try West Maple.

Wonder what happens when there are several liens on the property because the owner did pay his contractor and sub. I was the general on the job and was short changed $22,000 and the electrician which Nick hired didn't get paid a dime and that was $35,000. Wonder if nicks partner took a hit.

Sounds like a major cash-flow issue to me. I wonder if they are scrapping that location to recover the equity? (I assume they own it.)

I've never had a bad meal there although their smallest burger is huge and some of the seasonings they use can be a bit much.

(Mmmmmm! Queensboro Plaza! Jy-Roes!) :) :) :)

You got to get rid of old fresh meat inventory somehow.

Piezon is upgrading the restrooms and adding a bar to this former King Kong.
