Abelardo's Authentic Mexican Food (35th and Center)

Anyone heard of Abelarado's opening a location at 35th and Center in the old Valentino's? Next to Richie's Chicken?

Was at Richies on Saturday and the work was being done. The Vals is gone. There is some little paper sign on the door showing people where the new delivery area is going to be from their new location. On the front of the building is a sign announcing that Abelardo's is moving in there. Didn't give an opening date.

Of course, eating there makes their name mean something. Go there too often and I'll be a lardo.

They sell some damn good food. I never understood why they go by Abelardo's and Alvarados.

Whoever created the listing for it on the internet probably misspelled the name.

I heard they were the same owners and then they split up and now they have different names? Not sure if that is true or urban legend.

I don't know if it's different now, but when I first ate there a few years ago, my friend referred to it as Alvarado's. The sign clearly said Alvarado's, but when you look them up for business information it's always Abelardo's so I was always perplexed. I should have taken note when I went there today.

Saw their new marquee sign up the other day, but didn't see any notice of opening yet.

Three months later - they are still working, but look no closer to opening:

What did that building(s) start out as? It's not the ugliest conglomeration of structures in the city, but it sure looks hodge-podge.

When I lived in the area, I think Valentino's had a delivery operation out of there.

50 years ago it was an ice cream/dairy store called Evans----it was the go-to place for ice cream in Omaha.

Ricko, you and I recall that very well. I used to devour the root beer floats at Evan's Ice Cream.

I remember stopping at Evans; must have been in the early 70's. Does anybody remember what the "Red Baron" challenge was? My recollection is that is was a LOT of scoops of ice cream and a matching number of bananas, but I can't be specific about the number.
