A friend said they called and the person that answered said they will be opening in April with a new menu. I guess they are 2 months behind on the renovations.

I just called the number on their site and it sounds like House of Hunan is no more. The message said that they will be reopening in April with a new menu and new name "Fusion Chinese and Sushi." I wonder if the original owners retired. It's too bad. My family and friends loved their Chinese and had been going there for over 20 years.

Way back when...and I mean Waay Back when House of Hunan first opened, in the 1980s I believe, they were one of the very best Asian restaurants in the entire state. The food was excellent, the service was professional, and the place was very attractive, compared with your standard neighborhood Chinese place. Then Imperial Palace came along and stole their thunder. And then practically every neighborhood got their own Asian place(s). They just seemed to drop off the radar screen.
I'm not sure what their aim is in refocusing the restaurant on "fusion" cuisine. Perhaps they are trying to reclaim their reputation of excellence for Gens X and Y. I wish them success.

Well turning your Restaurant into what looks like a night club certainly isn't doing it for me haha  Now if its nightclub by night and Chinese joint during the day it might make some progress for the Gen Xers.. 8)

They said on their Facebook page that it is under new ownership, so that's probably why they changed the look so much.

From the top quote, with no support from people without even giving it a chance is one of the reasons why local eatery's don't make it.

The pictures on there FB page looks like it will be a nice place to go too, and they will be open till 2 am some nights that will be great if someone has went to a movie late and everything else is closed by the time they get out.

Yes having late hours will definitely be nice..

Going back to the comment made about each neighborhood having their own places is so true. I live a walking distance from Chopstick House and since getting Chinese is usually impulsive there is no way I will drive all the way across town for a place when I have a really good one a few blocks away. I assume most neighborhoods are like this.

PS.. I would never wish ill will on a local business just commenting that the lighting is a little extreme for a Chinese Restaurant. :;):

Neon lighting does not improve the appearance of food.

And forgive me, but the outdoor sign looks so incredibly cheesy.

I believe the parents moved to Sioux City several years ago and operate a restaurant there. Sorry I don't recall the name.

I look forward to trying Hunan Fusion once they get past their inevitable shake down period. It will be difficult for them to steer me away from J.C. Mandarin, however, which is closer to my home, and offers excellent food in an upscale atmosphere.

Hunan fusion is still owned by the same owner plus a few partners that brought more to offer for the restaurant. It's not just a chinese restaurant anymore it's a fusion restaurant so is dont think the decor is cheesy at all. It's what's in now a days for people in our generation. Happy hours etc. I think the place looks amazing and extremely classy. There is chinese, sushi, Thai, Korean, Japanese style inspired cuisine. Give it a shot the place looks great! Oh and just to let u know native JC mandarin sold a few weeks ago and have new owners now. So Hunan is still one of te best in town. I heard there is a great little place out in elkhorn too right by menards. Have to find out what the name is...
