One rumor I heard this week...totally unconfirmed...is that CVS will build on the NE corner of 72nd and Pacific, where the Kum & Go and adjacent strip center are now. Clancy's would relocate to the Venice Inn site. The existing building seems much too large, so either the rumor has no legs or the Venice Inn building has no future.

You rumor does have legs.... Someone did buy that entire corner. I have no idea who. Happened a few weeks ago but I haven't seen any updates on the assessor a site.

I was told Mike Kelley is closing that Clancy's after St Patrick's day. No mention of moving to the Venice Inn site, and I would be really surprised if they do.

Anybody have connections to Bronco's? It looks like they still own that land even though they no longer have a restaurant there.

There is also a temporary use permit issued on 3/12/14 for the strip mall address, 7120 Pacific.

We just got home from Venice Inn. Went there around 7 and there was a wait of around an hour. They were so busy, glad to see that for them. I got the Italian Fiesta Dinner thanks to Coyote's recommendation. Great choice! Sad to see the restaurant leave. Love the character of this place, none of the chain restaurants could even attempt to replicate it.

Anyone heard if they decided to extend the last day until May 3rd or not? I know originally they had thought of closing April 30. Either way, I am assuming this week is the last chance to have a meal there one last time.

Word has it that this sale fell through. Sad to hear they closed the restaurant because of pending sale, only to have it not happen.

Apparently the place shouldn't sit without a buyer for long, rumor has it that there are several other interested buyers

It also includes all of the building’s exterior signs: the large neon sign; the sign that reads “Caniglia’s, a Touch of Italy”; the large, lighted marquee; and the neon arrow.

Demolition on the old Venice Inn started today. Noticed after a lunch at Clancy's.
He said "They are some big, ugly red brick buildings"
...and then they were gone.

What's the word on the street for a replacement business? The permits are only for demolition.

Not entirely related to Venice Inn, but I wish they'd make a connection from this property to the adjacent parking lot directly to the east so that you could access 69th St / the light. Accessing east-bound Pacific St. from that place is always kind of a pain. I think the 72nd and Pacific intersection has a no u-turn sign, but that usually ends up being the best option.

Wow, knew it was happening, but that is a sad site. Hopefully some generic looking restaurant doesn't go in its place.

Has some place already committed to this land or are they just tearing it down to make it more attractive to potential buyers?

They always do these kinds of things over a holiday when no one is watching.
I heard from a Caniglia family member that a chain sports bar will build in this location.

Anyone know if that sign is being sold?

I'm always amused at how often signs outlive a building that's been demolished. Last time I drove by, the sign for the old chinese place at 60th and Center was still up, even though Petrow's has been building a new expansion on that property for about a year now! Are the specicification-writers for these demo contracts consistently forgetting to include "freestanding signs" in the scope?

No, I believe that if you leave the pole, that sign is grandfathered in for the new place. Otherwise, you would need to follow the new city rules for signs.

On a side note I think similar grandfather clauses go for buildings. The McDonalds on 77 & Dodge was basically remodeled. They kept a small length of wall. Otherwise it's all new.

Correct, by keeping a portion of the structure up, McDonalds was able to define it as a "remodel." Would they have torn it down the city wouldn't have allowed them to rebuild on that site due to current setback requirements. It's too small.

I was always wondering why they didn't just completely tear the old structure down, but that makes complete sense.

Some sort of work has started on the old Venice inn site. There's a big pile of dirt, construction equipment, and storm sewer pipe on the site .
